First off, I do not condone what happened at the Capitol. It is amazing the pearl clutching that is going on about it though. The news cycle has been running it non stop, and this morning our local news posted up some links for people that are traumatized from to talk with someone. I certainly don't remember seeing this after the riots in D.C. on Inauguration day 2017, after the several Berkeley riots , or after the close to six months of BLM / pAntifa / anarchist riots.

I also keep hearing how Trump incited this and called for the people to storm the Capitol. I have yet to hear the verbiage he used to trigger this particular incident. If someone has it, please reply with a link.

So, should politicians be held accountable when they make statements such as this ?

"the greatest movements in our history have been the power of the people , to take to the streets and force their government to address what is wrong"

Again, I don't condone what happened on the 6th, but didn't those individuals to exactly what the above statement alludes to ?

They are by the voters, which is how our system work. After all how many times did people like Adam Schiff come out and directly lie to America about all the proof he had about Russian collusion. Or some other Dem called for attacks on Trump and his voters.. Yet they stay in office no issues because their voters have decided they are ok with that. It's ugly but its how the system works.

Trump told his supporters to “walk down to the Capitol” in reference to his assertion that the election was stolen. Further Giuliani called for “trial by combat” to fight against the election result. Trump and his associates attempts to discredit the election result clearly emboldened some of his supporters to storm the Capitol building.

It is very concerning that so many Americans can support a man so clearly devoid of honesty and integrity as Trump is, it is an indictment on the broader political class and the current American psyche...people do not act so irrationally or support people like this in a functional political system that actually does a half decent job in supporting its citizens.

What speaks volumes is his dereliction of duty.

How many hours after the Trump rally turned violent and his mob was attacking our seat of government until he took any action?

Isn't his oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States? Isn't our elected body of representatives carrying out the business of the people as described in the Constitution part of defending the Constitution?

He willfully ignored his duty for his own gain.

He should be held accountable. And so should other Americans that incite and glorify violence.

True.
Sure, politicians should be held accountable for their statements, but only if we're going to not be hypocritical about it.
Dems like those "equality" bumper stickers on their cars, lets see them put that into action.
Otherwise, I have a hard time caring about any of it.

What is your opinion on this statement ?

"the greatest movements in our history have been the power of the people , to take to the streets and force their government to address what is wrong"

No American could be against peaceful protest.

IMO, the trouble started when we got so gerrymandered, along with cable news and radio. Then came social media. We have no common point of reference anymore.

Back in the olden days, every civic club in town had the congressman as the monthly lunch speaker. He had to see issues from the POV of all the constituents. Politics was seeing and understanding all sides of an issue and finding a solutions we could all live with.

Now we see anybody with a different POV as an enemy to be defeated. We label a person with a different POV as evil, less than human.

Throw in civil rights for all of us, abortion, GLTB, and common greed and we have the USA today.

Of course politicians should held accountable for what they say. Who judges?
