Colorado has always been home to some of Boebert's species. She defeated Scott Tipton, in this last election, but he was a republican of the same ilk as she is -she's just more extreme.
Colorado's been the official home of some of the most outrageous of the fundamentalist, evangelical churches (They moved here, chose Colorado as home, they did not have roots here.)

John Salazar was a Blue Dog Democrat and on policy, was the equivalent of a moderate Republican tbh. It's a conservative district and at this point probably even a conservative Democrat would not get elected. Ski towns may not be conservative but they are also pretty small and not enough votes to change the overall characterization of the district
People like to say Colorado is a purple state, but it's really not, it's divided up between dark blue and dark red areas. As a state, we are blue now overall, because the blue areas outnumber the red areas based on population. And that makes the less populated areas very unhappy - I've even seen proposals suggesting a state equivalent of the Electoral College, to count votes from rural areas more heavily.
