Like most of us I have been watching events at the Capitol unfold. Trump and his minions blew their chance last week. The events showed the world how vulnerable our capitol building is, AND how resilient our (authoritarian police state) democracy remains.

I never dreamed our Capitol was so EASY to breech. No bulletproof glass, no "blast doors" that could be shut electronically to block access. (I bet some retro fitting will be coming soon.) That unarmed, unorganized rabble was able to enter the halls of democracy virtually unopposed, is inconceivable. Yet it happened.

If anyone remembers back, in '85 about 35 M-19 guerrillas seized the Columbian Ministry of Justice, took over 300 hostages, and killed about dozen of the Supreme Court justices. About a hundred people died in the end and the building was burned down. That COULD have happened here. Especially when it appears some of the police and legislators were on the side of the insurgents.

But instead we got the whacked out Q-anon, "Keystone Cops" version, complete with Vikings. Luckily for the republic it was just a riotous mob and not an organized action of trained paramilitary under Trumps direction. IMHO he's such a bad and incompetent leader that he couldn't even make a coup work when he had all the cards on his side. Watching the debacle unfold was like that moment in a Mad Max film, "Plan? There ain't no Plan!"

Had Trumps red hat army been armed, organized, trained, and supplied to stay, they could have could have taken our Capitol and held the ENTIRE Congress, Vice President and his family hostage. They could have forced pretty much any demands they or Trump wanted upon the nation. Or executed pretty much the entire Federal government on TV in front of a horrified world.

IMHO we missed experiencing a full on right wing coup by a whisker. Had Trump and his followers not been so ignorant in the ways of revolution, and so incredibly incompetent we could all be waking up today to a "President for Life," martial law and a dissolved government or full-blown civil war.

Now the incoming democrat authoritarian police state is (as usual) going to have a kneejerk reaction and strip more rights from the common citizen. Already freedom of speech is being curtailed under the guise of "private companies" who control public access to media. All we hear on TV is from legislators and pundits calling for removing guns from the hands of lawful citizens and calling for the shutting down of social media, silencing of any voices of opposition and eradication of dissent.

I'm afraid we are sill in for a rocky ride for awhile.

Yeah, they pretty much blew their wad and couldn’t even delay the confirmation of the election. In fact they probably accelerated it. What a bunch of traitorous morons.

They will never have an opportunity like Jan 6th again. Washington will be hardened. They will go to jail.

No surprise, Trump was pretty much failure at anything he tried except reality tv show. Just think how he would reacted if somebody he fired refused to leave the set? LOL, the guy is a loser. The sad thing is probably lot smarter wannabe fuhrer will see how Trump manipulated people and do a lot slicker job of it.

And a sad consequence of this is that the building will never be as open and accessible to the people that it once was. DC will be one set of guarded walls after another.

If you think this was anywhere near a "coup"..............

Your mind is in the right place, just don't imbibe the hyperbolic hysteria of the left.

A "coup" LMAO

They may burned flags and toppled CONFEDERATE statues (hint: they were honoring rebels AGAINST USA) BUT they didnt violently invade the CAPITOL BUILDING trying to stop the CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS. And apparently KILL the VP if possible.

So if you are worried about REBEL statues, maybe you are a REBEL WANNABE???????? Or just an academic historian? LOL
