1. Precedent. Groups who try to overturn the government who are not punished later go on to *actually* overturn the government. See: Nazis, Pinochet, Argentina. Consequence and accountability are part and parcel of being President. Impeachment reflect that.
2. Impeachment would prevent Trump from getting access to sensitive, secure materials. All former presidents are able to get intelligence briefings. It is not in America's best interest for that information to be shared with someone who tacitly supported an insurrection.
3. Money. Trump, and his grifter family, will get millions of dollars a year of taxpayer dollars for security and travel expenses. Impeachment means that service is limited to security solely for Trump, with no travel expenses for any of them.
Let them go for it....Impeach him, even after he is out and it will show how mad dems are at trump. That they are willing to waste all that money to impeach someone who is no longer there.
But hey, keep it up anti-trumpers.

He went on to argue that the Constitution doesn’t allow the impeachment of a former president.
“And the Constitution specifically says, ‘The President shall be removed from office upon impeachment.’ It doesn’t say the former president. Congress has no power to impeach or try a private citizen, whether it be a private citizen named Donald Trump or named Barack Obama or anyone else,” he said.
There is legal precedent for impeachment after leaving office. Belknap 1876 if you want to do some research. Not saying it means Trump will be impeached even if he’s gone, just saying it has happened and there’s precedent set so it could happen.

Impeachment is something that is done by the House of Representatives, and that is entirely within the partisan power of the Democrats to do, for any legitimate reason or for none, the latter which would be the case in this instance, as long as the get it done before inauguration day.
As far as a trial in the Senate, it does not appear that it is likely to happen. Even if it did, the votes are not there for it to succeed. In any case, the Democrats are all about virtue signaling and emotional acting out. So even though it would be an entirely unprincipled, blatant abuse of power, the House can do what they are proposing, if they feel like it.
Really? It's not just that he will be disgraced forever as the only President to be impeached twice, and not just that it makes it impossible for him to ever run for office again?
Take away his perks, oh heck yeah.
Please let him not continue to get Secret Service protection.
Pelosi disgraces herself with her clown shows.
Try to look up Barbara Jordan in the 1974 Nixon impeachment hearings. You will realize what a total clown Pelosi is.
While never done before, The Constitution does allow for a President to be impeached and convicted after serving office.
No. It isn't clear that is legal.
Congress can do whatever it wants on that front, but it doesn't mean that it has any weight.
