In Europe there are lot of prime ministers and presidents who were basically Trump copycats. A lot of European Populist were either gaining moments or succeeding in countries like France, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary, and Poland. However, with the storming of the U.S. Capitol, these same populists who were loyal to Trump are distancing themselves from him. Trumpism has a tainted image now because domestic terrorism is now attached to it. What happens to the idea of patriotic pride and sealing up borders to outsiders? Is Populism out just like Trump?
I don't see Trumpism (or right-leaning populism) fading away anytime soon (unfortunately)...I see it morphing into something else while retaining certain key elements.

Trump is the model for an elitist.
He's only lived in New York City. He's always had money. He knows nothing else.
this notion he is of the people is hilarious.
He only took their applaus and adoration...he didn't care about any of them.
One of the most telling moments was when he was campaigning in 2016 and he was insulting somebody -- can't even remember who -- but he mocked them for not having as much money as he did...implying he was superior because he had more money. And the crowd went wild. Probably in that crowd of 5000......5 people had as much money as Trump -- and the rest of them did not get that he thought they were less than because they didn't have as much as him.

Trump would’ve got nowhere if people didn’t have grievances/issues they wanted pushed to the forefront. Trump was a nobody in American politics until 8 years of Obama.
People thought Trump was the river, but he was the dam. (Credit to Michael Malice on that one.) Many acted as if removing Trump would make things go back to normal, but they don’t understand the cause and effect.
Trump wasn’t the source of the right wing turning against the establishment, the mainstream media, the usual narratives, etc. It was building for awhile, and they backed Trump because he was the biggest middle finger available in 2016.
He wasn’t the source, he was a result of people being sick of the status quo. If anything, he was the only thing keeping them from turning against the system completely, and now that he’s out...

Spot on.
No amount of impeachment will cleanse America of the divide that brought us Trump.
As a billionaire running a somewhat grassroots campaign — Trump was one of a few people who had the ability to put a face to America’s middle finger toward the establishment. He also had the unapologetic persona that would allow him to say things without fear of backlash from the corporate elites. The typical Republican spends an entire campaign cowering in fear to chants of racism or sexist or whatever. Trump was America’s way of saying ok, let’s have that discussion

It wasn't just a middle finger towards the establishment. He represented a middle finger towards people of color, Muslims, women, immigrants, veterans, disabled, etc.

Whether populist or not, Trump has incited many of these would-be dictators around the world and their nitwit supporters, to take over their governments. I think that the disgrace and fall of Trump will cause that trend to start unwinding in these other countries. The United States leads everything and there's always a response to copy what we do, good or bad, it seems. We can hope it works out that way, at least.

47% of the American electorate voted for Trump — more than a few were people of color, Muslims, women, veterans, disabled, etc. Stop attempting to speak for all people that fit those designations.
Dare as say as many women voted for Trump as they did Obama?
