State Dem party chairman called the current recall effort to recall Gov Newsom a coup, led by anti vaccers, right wing anti gov't radicals, etc. Recall of public officials is clearly outlined in State Constitution, and requires 1.5 million signatures to get on the ballot for voters to approve or disapprove the recall. They provided no proof of anything. Now even prominent democrats are saying it was the stupidest statement by Dems they have ever seen, and are ashamed at the party chairman. Petition signatures to get it on the ballot are now seeing a dramatic uptick and it looks like the recall election may well have a chance to be on the ballot. Dems are desperate and Newsom is in a panic. Only thing that may save Newsom in the recall election is if he comes out NOW and says the comments were irresponsible and not what he believes. I doubt he will do that. Those calling for recall do not have to state any reason, but it is generally accepted the reason for it is his erratic and ever changing run=les that have shut down nearly every small business in the state.

Yes, they are, and yes, Newsome is. The recall effort is gaining great traction, with many signatures coming from small business owners.

Newsom's latest budget, which he is calling a Covid budget, calls for $550 million to be spent on relief to small business, and $1.5 Billion to encourage electric car buying. Many are saying he has lost him mind.

California deserves what it votes for, but recalls are a legal remedy there so nothing much to complain about.

It doesn't matter what interests are leading a recall effort, it isn't a coup (or an attempted coup) if it follows the defined legal process. A coup is an illegal action to insert new officials, usually by force. There is a significant difference.

He's proven to be thoughtful now too. Definitely knows his presidential history.
