This is the amount Trump wanted. House did a clean bill in December. McConnell let the clock run out.

It clearly asks for more than is expected. My guess is $15/ hr will be the first to go.
Joe is gonna fight for that one...the major unions backed him up on that promise.

He's not in office yet and he's already walking back that promise. Let the mental gymnastics begin!

Stupid Joe,

OMG, watch unemployment skyrocket now, giving people an extra 400 per week until September.
Who's going to want to work when they can make more money unemployed? The economy will never recover like this.

AOC wants the $2K in addition to the $600 that's going out in the 2nd payment. Joe Manchin has said that he's against it and would rather put the money into Covid relief. That makes sense, but people need the money, too.

If they're giving away money, sure, I'll take it. I can always use a new camera or put it towards a Corvette or something. You know, to stimulate the economy.

Andrew Yang is also playing the Free Dollars game. He's promising money to NYC residents if they elect him mayor. He doesn't say where it's coming from but it just might get him elected.

Excellent speech, more presidential than anything Trump ever did, glad the adults are in charge, looks like we might actually get some REAL relief and REAL handling of the pandemic.

So happy we only have 6 more days of this miserable failure president. Won’t miss him at all.

He's not walking anything back, anyone with common sense knows he was talking about the house bill that was passed.

The concept of UBI is good, and it's gaining popularity. Other places do it, it doesn't make people "lazy" and I'd rather see money go directly to Americans instead of the corporate overlords

It’s not intended to go through, as is.

Democrats don’t have a super majority.

What “other places” do UBI ?

There have been several limited UBI pilots. By limited, I mean a particular region of a country and/ or only a portion of the population.

Alaska has its variable Permanent Fund Dividend. Last year the dividend was $992 per qualified resident, hardly UBI. Alaska has long had one of the highest rates of welfare in the US.

Tourism is the second largest employer. Most tourists arrive via cruise ship. Each Alaskan port imposes a port tax on every passenger, the highest in the world. A portion of this tax flows through to the state.

There was no 2020 cruise season.
