The question is, what would have happened had those in charge of security not responded with an overwhelming, public show of force and preparedness, dashing any hopes at all that rioters would be successful, or even live through the attempt at preventing the inauguration?
There are still people on this forum making threats that there will be violence, although it's likely they're keyboard warriors and have no intention whatsoever of following through on their statements.
The problem is not just those people posting the stuff, they, for the most part, are keyboard warriors but remember this subforum is one of the most popular on City Data and gets thousands of views. All it takes is for one person who has at least moderate charisma to get radicalized on something someone on here posted to set a chain reaction of events leading to violence. That goes for all political viewpoints not just the far-right.
I would bet a hefty sum of money if I was a betting man that either a member or someone who was lurking on this very forum participated in the January 6th event.
The media is making a big deal, alleging that Trump supporters will commit terrorist attacks or take over state Capitols. Nothing is going to actually happen.

FBI, not media, has made it clear, there are credible risks in DC and at state houses, across the country.
The Federal government is going to have 22,000 troops in DC. States are deploying troops to state houses and other buildings across the US.
The democrats look more stupid every day. 20k military at the capital why? Did they cheat or something? Media is a frothing rabid bunch of talking heads that’s for sure.

But I can assure you that the spin doctors and other manipulators within the media will do everything in their power to present even the most minor disturbance as a full-blown riot -- supposedly orchestrated by "right-wingers" -- the dangerous "right wing" being defined as anyone who does not subscribe to the agenda promoted by the Absolutely Politically Correct and their allies at msn and Yahoo "news" (sites which appear to be "dumbed down" and sterilized for the indoctrination of middle-schoolers).
Meanwhile, what's to prevent a few ANTIFA-types from infiltrating the ranks of the MAGA crowd and raising a little hell under a "false flag"?
Every 4 years groups show to protest.
Every 4 years there is civil unrest.
Every 4 years there are clashes between advocacy and protest groups.
Following 1/6, FBI reports substantial,incremental and credible risks.

Of course nothing will happen. There are troops in place to prevent anything. That we need military to protect a peaceful transition of power from an outgoing president is more than a little scary though.
Troops have historically been deployed to the Inauguration as there are always protests and risks.
What’s happening with this inauguration is without precedent given 1/6 and online chatter.
It’s a no- win situation. If violence breaks out, FBI and the outgoing Admin will be blamed. If it’s peaceful, it looks like overkill.

I agree, the media never lets a bad incidents go to waste, I wish I could have marked both not going to watch it and over politics. This will be the first one, since I voted that I’m going to ignore.
