They don't care about real diversity. They only care about superficial diversity -- skin color, gender, etc. They can't stand diversity of opinions or cultural differences.

This is exactly the problem. If you make prioritize identity group representation then you must necessarily deprioritize fair and equal treatment of individuals. These two values are in direct conflict with each other.

Progressives want to abolish all merit based systems and survival of the fittest to make the all star athlete or intelligent overachiever equal with the welfare recipients. If it was about equality there wouldnt be special privileges and lower standards for certain ethnic groups. IQ wouldn't be racist.

They see the haves and get jealous and want what the haves want without wanting to work for it. They pander to these people to get votes...all it's really about for them is staying in power so they can keep the gravy train rolling in.

Diversity is amazing provided it’s organic.

When it, like anything else, is forced at anything faster than an organic pace, it will foster a huge backlash.

Maybe it’s because I was born to an immigrant Ma in a part of the US which was and is minority Caucasian (I am basically all Caucasian), but I personally like a good dose of heterogeneity. It’s the spice of life. We’re all humans and I like being in a bit of a hot seat where I don’t always know the cultural norms. That can be expanded beyond race or ethnicity to sexual orientation, etc. It’s good to not just be around folks like you. It’s bad to force it on anybody.

Diversity is neutral. It is not something that should be fought against, nor is it something that should be aspired to.

I don't think, Democrats are obsessed with diversity. If that was true my county, Fort Bend County would have a bunch of liberals moving here just because it's the 2nd most diverse county in the United States (Queens County is numero uno). Most democrats just check it off, on a checklist of good but not a necessity to have. A few think it's a necessity at the decision table but that's different from an obsession with diversity. Being in a diverse environment, I've yet to meet anyone jump out and scream that this place is the best to live just because of it's diversity. It's one of the things that comes up but almost always in a long list of things people look for. Good schools is another one of the buzzwords, as well as eye-opening or an inclusive environment. They just assume diversity leads to an inclusive environment and being more open to trying new things.

Two different things. Virtually no one argues that those who come here legally should be afforded any fewer rights than any other American.

What I find amusing is that "multiculturalism" is primarily something touted by privileged white people. And even more amusingly, the same people who, when asked to cite a society that really has it together, moreso than the United States, usually respond by citing the most homogenously white countries on the planet, like the Scandinavian countries. Curious. Very curious.

A final observation: the people whom I generally see touting multiculturalism cannot tell you anything of substance about these cultures of whose virtues they extoll. And that includes other cultures within our own borders, too. Last year, the non-profit environmental group for which my father served on the board, brought in two "implicit bias trainers." As one would expect, the results were embarrassing and divisive. The trainers were two white women in the mid-twenties, and they began with an acknowledgement that they and the audience were standing on ground stolen from Native Americans and then did some sort of mix of yoga and chants. When the story was relayed to me, my first question to my father was, "What are the odds that these two girls could tell you which Indian tribes once occupied that land?" His response was, of course, "Zero." How can anyone claim to be a "multiculturalist" if they know nothing about the cultures they venerate? How can anyone be a multiculturalist when they know nothing about history, including their own, I might add? It's posing. It's theater. It's obnoxious.

They are not interested in diversity. They are interested in using identity politics for power grab. They have gone so far with their push with identity politics that they are actually anti-diversity.
