I don’t watch inaugurations either. They are full of tradition that smacks a bit too closely to the monarchy for my taste. Four years ago today I was on a cruise ship in the Caribbean and it was lovely. Circumstances prevent being in the same location this year, but my day won’t include watching the pomp and lather. It’s startling to see some of the posts on my FB timeline today. Some people really believe that a day like today is a life changing experience that will make their lives better somehow. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen enough of them to know otherwise that it’s easy to just carry on like I always do.
Agree. I’ve never watched a presidential inauguration live. Some seem to act as if a president is a monarch or dictator. Some presidents also seem to think so as they use executive orders like laws but as we’ve seen with COVID, so do some state governors. For true checks and balances the courts and the legislature should have some form of authority to override a president or governor executive order.
First sunny day for a presidential inauguration in many years. Even nature is celebrating.
