If he truly wanted unity, he would have at least extended an olive branch of some kind to the half of America who voted for Trump. Instead, he gives us a slap in the face by immediately signing 17 executive orders reversing Trump's policies. Geez Joe, could you have at least gradually turned back the clock to the Obama era?

What should he have given you for not voting for him?

I'm curious.

You don't think it is unifying to demonize all (74,000,000) Trump's voters? Obviously you are a white supremacist. If you were not you would agree with Joe. And would have voted for him. There can be no giving in to racists.

Didn’t expect anything different from the Russian bots here now that their tool has been removed.

Post and cry your tears, karma has come back to hit you in your face.

A coup attempt incited by the former president. Two weeks prior.

And meanwhile, the capitol was now swarming with National Guard, because the goons were still at it, and there was a palpable threat he would be shot during his speech.

And yet he stood up there, and gave the loveliest, most welcoming, most unifying speech I've ever heard at an inauguration.

He's not going to be a do-nothing president, or one who will advance the terrible policies of his predecessor, or be slow to dismantle the harmful executive orders that were signed in a flurry of attempts to harm us all, to stick his thumb in our eyes, if that's what you're expecting.

But neither will he withhold FEMA relief from states that didn't vote for him, or governors who don't bow and kiss the ring. You can expect not to see THAT kind of leadership ever again.

That's what happens when a President's legacy is all executive orders. It was much harder to turn back the Affordable Care Act because it was legislation. Obama relied on the executive order and Trump undid a lot of what Obama did with a stroke of the pen. Biden will do the same. And if Biden did not want to undo the Trump tax cuts (I'm not saying he does or he will), that will be very hard, just like rolling back the ACA is hard because it was legislation.

The lesson here is... if Trump wanted a legacy, it should have been in legislation. He had a shot at the wall. In 2017, he could have had all the funding for the wall he needed in a piece of legislation - something that could not be undone easily. Republicans could have defeated a Democratic filibuster using Budget Reconciliation (just 51 votes needed to break filibuster as opposed to 60). Instead, Trump used his two shots at this on the failed skinny repeal of ACA and the Trump tax cuts.

Just look at history with the wall.

When Obama came into office, wall construction continued. Why? The Secure Fence Act of 2006 was a piece of legislation that called for 700 miles of border wall. By the time Obama came into office, the wall was about 650 miles long. Under Obama's Administration, they completed the remaining 50 miles of the wall as per the law.

If Trump had gone that path instead of using executive orders to procure the funds, the wall would be under construction today. The failure of the Trump Wall is Trump's. Biden is simply halting the funds Trump redirected.

Fun fact: Bush built 650 miles of wall in just 2 years. Trump extended the border wall by how much in 4 years? 3 miles or so?

On June 23, Trump visited Yuma, Arizona, for a campaign rally commemorating the completion of 200 miles (320 km) of the wall.[61] U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that almost all of this was replacement fencing

As of today, reporting still says that most of the wall was replaced, but not new - they barely extended the wall at all. A few miles here and there at most.
