In fairness, it's no more ridiculous than the Dem push to impeach Trump after he's already left office.
Actually, there’s legal precedence to do that.
In the 19th century there were several impeachments of officials who no longer held office. The actions were taken to prevent them from holding office again.
The same principle could apply with President Trump.
