If I were president, I would have asked congress to enact a gradient minimum wage based on the states GDP and COL. States with higher GDP and COL would have a higher base, and states with lower GDP and COL would have a lower base.
Californians brag about their minimum wage, which honestly, factored in with GDP and COL is far less impressive than missouri's.

Milton Friedman (a former hero to the right), suggested a "negative income tax"
That will raise the minimum wage without any governmental action needed.
We have a over-supply of cheap, uneducated labor. It brings down the entire wage structure for lower income Americans.
One major reason low-income wages went up under Trump were the restrictions on immigration. The great economy helped particular in blue-collar jobs, but we have great economic periods before and wages did NOT go up due to mass immigration.

Fed MW is usually lower than most State MWs already. If the State MWs is higher, then they dont Fed MW is enough.

The real minimum wage was, has always been, and will always be zero.
As the monetary supply increases, any static amount is moving towards zero. You must keep pace with increasing supply. Hence why the MW must also be increased. Unless we want to enact slavery again.

How about setting a "gradient minimum wage" based on the value of the work to the company paying the worker, and the willingness of the worker to do it at that wage?

I think liberals like this need to stop suggesting such ideas that involve a big government approach like this. Leave it up to the states.
That being said, anything the federal government does (which should be minimal) should be adjusted for GDP and COL.
