Democrats trust and respect Fauci, and they blame the covid deaths on Trump, never on Fauci. After all, Trump minimized the danger in the beginning. But so did Fauci. While Trump was president, Fauci did not speak out against Trump's policies.

But that's because, say the Democrats, Fauci didn't want to be fired. He felt the country needed him during this emergency, so he refrained from getting into conflicts with the president.

But wait a second -- if Fauci strongly believed Trump was causing many thousands of Americans to die, he should have risked his job to protect them.

The truth probably is that Fauci didn't know what to do in the beginning. No one really did. Some countries did better and some did worse, but the reasons are not really known.

Still, Democrats say Trump is responsible for all the covid deaths, while Fauci is not responsible for any.

Not so logical, Democrats.

(The article I linked says nothing about the fact that the pandemic might actually have been caused by research his agency promoted and funded.)

I agree. I am constantly baffled by the God crown bestowed on Fauci’s head. It was his job to convince Trump that the virus was going to be a crisis of unprecedented proportion, which anyone with some level of epidemiology expertise seeing some of the video coming out of China as early as January had reason to fear, instead he told everyone the flu was a greater threat and to go about their lives. He even went so far as to tell people to keep going on cruises after the Diamond Princess turned into a sailing infection Petri dish. And, oh, the whole mask crapola. I just don’t understand why he isn’t universally trashed, let alone why he is worshipped. He was supposed to be the expert.

And gets paid quite well for it apparently: https://www.yahoo.com/news/dr-anthon...120642103.html

"Dr. Anthony Fauci has the highest salary of all federal government employees in the US.
He even earns more than the president.
The nation's top infectious-disease expert, who leads the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, earned $417,608 in 2019, the most recent year for which data is available, per a Freedom of Information Act request by OpenTheBooks."

I guess in government work, incompetence pays the big bucks.

Like you say at the start of a future Pandemic no one knows enough. You either go with your gut, let politics take care of it, or go with the medical. IMO #3 is the best bet, and with the medical there is no finer or more experienced doc than Fauci. And this goes back decades.

Dems/libs tend to go with and follow the medical. So while many Pubs/cons call it all political, it is mainly medical for the Dems/libs.

Medicine is not always right, but in most related cases the best bet. Same with Fauci.

Pandemic in many ways is like fighting a War. There will be losses that we all want to minimize, and savings that we all want to maximize. Bests in both realms IMO are medical and Fauci.

I especially liked this line....

Quote:
But Fauci seldom contradicted the president’s lies outright, opting for tact and de-escalation instead.
Here is another good one...

Quote:
Over 400,000 Americans are dead, twice as many as any other country. Infections, hospitalizations, and deaths are currently at record highs. And although we have a vaccine, the rollout has already been stymied by a dearth of resources and coordination. As one public health expert told The New York Times on January 17, our pandemic response has been “a colossal failure at every level of government.”
And yes...

Quote:
One, Fauci overestimated the amount of harm he could prevent by remaining in Trump’s good graces. By declining to firmly correct and denounce Trump’s self-serving misinformation, and thereby produce a definitive break, Fauci made a disastrous miscalculation. He needed to pick a side, and it should’ve been the one opposite Trump.
And we have this...

Quote:
The only place one finds consistent criticism of Fauci is in right-wing media, where it’s usually tainted by bull**** and bad faith.

Ah, another one...

Quote:
Indeed, Fauci is only blameless if he was utterly powerless to stop the administration’s disastrous plans.
And get this...

Quote:
if Fauci had publicly denounced the White House’s approach, he would have united the entire medical and scientific community behind him. The effect of such a collective action is difficult to predict, but it’s not unthinkable Trump could’ve been removed from office,

A fish rots from the head down. The messaging coming out of the White House was almost entirely managed by its leader. Blaming Fauci for their mismanagement is pure scapegoating.
