A local TV station facebook page story. The mother is in the comments stating there was NO back story, it's exactly as she's reporting it, and others chime in to say Rejoice School does this stuff. Sounds beievable.

Or that crush has a variety of meanings, and for an 8-year-old it doesn't mean the same thing as it does for a teenager or an adult.
Yes. The parents who wanted their children completely shielded from the evils of the world got smacked right in the face with . . . the evils of the world.
There's some poetic justice in that. They got a FULL dose of the prejudices they wanted taught to their child.
2nd grader? Shouldn't she be playing in the sandbox or with little dollies? "Crushes" shouldn't be coming along until just before puberty. Perhaps there is something medically wrong with this little girl? Or even more likely, something wrong with her parents?
Apparently, the school is not familiar with the Book of Ruth in the Bible.
Ruth and Naomi weren't lesbians! They were family members by marriage: a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law. Their relationship was merely a strong friendship, formed as a result of bonding over a war-like situation in Israel/Canaan. Friendships used to be a lot more loyal in the past than they are today, you know. (Well, if they had a romantic relationship, it technically wasn't a sin, since weren't blood relatives, but still.)
OK, back on topic. 2nd-graders are pre-puberty. That girl's statement of a "crush" is parroting of something she heard on the god-awful Radio Disney or Kidz Bop, or from an older friend. It was stupid of her to say it, but totally not worth the expulsion she got. And I'm saying all this as a hardline conservative.

Kids are being 'sexualized' at a much earlier age today!
This has been going on for decades now, My first sexual experience happened at the age of 13, (this was in the mid 80s), the average age for 'first sexual encounter' has been going down for years. Point is, while this is not really 'sexual', its in the ballpark.
