They are up because of Covid pressures on medical facilities and all the difficulties obtaining other general medical care and necessary follow up.

Influenza is down everywhere in the world because of Covid 19 Pandemic protocols, and in some countries because of increased vaccination programs.

People are mostly staying home and wearing masks and social distancing when they go out. And many more people than usual have gotten the flu vaccine.

So of course that has helped prevent spread of the flu. It's not even remotely mysterious

Yes, absolutely unfathomable that with people staying home, wearing masks and social distancing, along with businesses wiping down everything like never before, that communicable diseases (flu, etc) might drop off substantially.

Must be proof of some conspiracy, according to right-wingers. No other rational possibility. None.

Also, there have been no deaths from the hoax, COVID. And even if 400,000 U.S. citizens DID die, that's simply nothing, "compared to the millions we were promised".

Who "promised" that again? Under what context? Never mind, any facts would get in the way of a good story.

People need to distinguish between deaths FROM Covid, a tiny fraction of the total, and WITH Covid where victims had multiple medical conditions and were elderly.

Maybe the Covid virus is cannibalistic and eats seasonal flu viruses.

Cause of death listed as COVID.

Wanna know why? Because COVID 19 is why she succumbed. You said so yourself. She was alive with how many weeks ahead of her, who knows? Even if she only had one day, as if anyone knew for sure. In any event she contracted the SARS-COV 2 virus while alive, became ill with COVID 19 and then died. COVID 19 caused her death.

No debate: Alive. Caught the virus. Ill with COVID. Dead. COVID 19 caused her death.

RIP to your friend.

Of course some WITH. But far and away these deaths are FROM, not WITH. Especially in those at high risk. Of course some would have died 'soon' from their underlying medical problems, but most died FROM Covid.

Many other more typical deaths like cancers, cardiac, strokes and Alzheimer's are also up in 2020 because of the Pandemic's protocols interfering with more typical medical care and follow up.

The 'tiny' fraction that you refer to is the small numbers of younger and healthy people dying FROM Covid.

Covid has probably been around longer than we think. AKA non-A and non-B influenza. Now they got a test for it, and we will need now get a yearly flu shot that includes the latest Covid flu.

Not really. People are taking precautions and thus eliminating the chance to catch the flu.

Not touching your face while out and washing your hands often is a basic form of prevention.
I've been doing it for over 20 years now as I do not get the flu shot and haven't had the flu.

Most people get their shot and think they have some kind of magic bubble protecting them.

All you have to do is take some precautions every flu season and you won't see those high numbers ever again.
