You can be sure, you can be damn sure if the assailant was white, it would be considered a hate crime and the media would say so incessantly.
The people trying to downplay how the attacks are nearly all black on asian [with a few hispanics sprinkled in like the man in NYC - Patrick Mateo], they would be absolutely the first in line banging the drums and screaming both online and offline that it was 100% racism if it was white men doing these attacks. It would be blasted on the news every hour of the day and Alyssa Milano would have virtue signaled a few times about it too by now.
The attacks are still happening so this issue is still alive.

What makes somebody so cruel and violent at such a young age? With video coverage of the assault it makes for good evidence in stricter punishment I hope.

Well, maybe it’s because you know he was pushed, rather than shot or something. The average person probably would not have died but he did because he was older and more fragile.
Well, for the most part, Asians are now grouped in with the Whites since the tend to advance in both education and in the workforce/business owners.
Pretty soon Asians will be told that they need to shed their Yellow-ish/Brown-ish “privilege” by the silly-@zz “woke” people... Who are mainly Whites that come from rich or well off families.
It’s sad that America now thinks that crimes against one ethnic group is worst than a crime against another ethnic group... Basically sound like Nazi Germany or Apartheid in South Africa.
I was raised to believe the U.S. Justice System was blind, but I guess not in the new America.

What I find interesting is that the other suspect has an Asian surname - “Goo.” She might not be but it’s not unlikely that she is Asian. Her picture and case status have been kept very quiet.
