Many of the next decade baby boomers has made very high salaries last two decades thanks to the economic bubbles and will be recieving the maximum amount of Social Security benefits which is about $3,100/mo, many of them also have ex-spouses who will be drawing half that also.

Wow, Biden proposes $1.9 trillion stimulus and $2 trillion plan to try to change the weather

Now, Mitt Romney proposes $4,200 year for children under 6 and $3,000 for 6 to 17 years old.

Well, you know what that means, an even larger amount of free cash for the friends and allies of politicians.

When they gave us a $600 stimulus check, they were essentially stealing about $3,000 from each American, and letting us keep $600 of it. So if they are talking about $3,000 then the real amount they'd be stealing will be somewhere around $15,000. Where we keep $3,000 and another $12,000 will go to corny capitalist fat cats, at our expense. Do these fools not see how they are going to destroy this nation, by drowning us in debt?

Gotta keep the ponzi scheme of social security and such going. Without a growing population to support the retirement set, things fall apart. We either need a baby boom or some massive restructuring(that would require bi-partisanship).

As a childless person, I don't have any problem with support of children being a priority. I think it's a smart investment that a civilized and advanced society should make. However, it does need to be target to actually benefit children.

If it's a simple payout for an upper-middle class family that's already getting preferential tax treatment to afford a more luxurious lifestyle, then no, I don't support that money being taken from a single person who is struggling to pay rent but can't because they're bumped up into a much higher tax bracket because they're single.

I do support helping children receive needed health care, food, preventing them from becoming homeless, and preventing them from going to public schools with a leaking roof that the school board can't afford to fix.

A civilized and advanced society does not have kids it can't afford.

Guess the Republicans are trying to get that “pro-family” label back. That’s long gone and was farce in the first place.

That may be true, but it also doesn't punish the children, even more than they're already punished from their parents' chaotic lifestyles, who had absolutely nothing to do with their parents' mating habits.

And my point was that the benefits should be aimed at giving children who are economically disadvantaged through no fault of their own a fighting chance at becoming equipped to be better members of society, rather than just giving a handout to the parents because they have kids. Middle class and higher income families (with an annual income of up to $400,000) benefit tremendously from preferential tax treatment for married people, especially those with children. It's not just the demonized "welfare queens" who have cashed in.
