Doesn’t mean that either joined the opposite parties, I would bet being independent.

Independent is the only smart choice. Intelligent people look at who is best for the country, not what letter appears after their name.

1,374 of the 10,000+ former Republicans registered as Democrats with the rest switching to Independent or non-affiliated.

In a related story, in Colorado, Republican registrations fell by 4,000 during the first week of January, the same time frame as the attack on the Capitol.

In PA, Republican registrations fell by 10,000 in the first 25 days of 2021.

Also happening in Florida, North Carolina and Maryland.

Some D registrants are switching too, but at a far lower clip.

Uncertain how many are moderates dissatisfied with the Trump-led GOP and how many are Trump fans unhappy with the GOP.

Something to keep an eye on. It might fade over time.

Absolutely.

The idea that you register as one or the other blew my mind the first time I came across it. No wonder the duopoly is so strong.

Unfortunately, in many states you have to register as a Democrat or Republican to vote in the primaries. Otherwise, I would have switched to independent years ago.

I'm Independent but, if you're socially conservative and Independent, be aware that you're essentially helping the Democrats, albeit unintentionally.

I left the Rino party a few years ago when the Republican party melded in with the liberal democrats.. and voted for Trump. twice. I am now an independent.

How so? It just means you are tied to any specific group.

I’m waiting to see what becomes of the Republican Party before I make a decision. If Romney, McConnell, Kasich and others regain control, I’m out.
