Indiana investigates nurse who unhooked oxygen from COVID-19 patient
The nurse had watched the nursing home resident suffering with breathing complications from COVID-19. She saw him repeatedly try to remove his oxygen mask and asked him if he "wanted to let go and go to Heaven" so he could "fly with the angels."
She then removed his oxygen mask without a doctor's order. The man died.
The alleged incident inside Wedgewood Healthcare Center in southern Indiana is detailed in a state health inspection report reviewed by IndyStar, part of the USA TODAY Network. Local police and the nursing home operator, Ohio-based Communicare, confirmed to IndyStar that the attorney general was investigating.
I mean, she can't play God - She's not an ANGEL Of Mercy.. And she had not told anyone - But Posted it on Social Media. She should be charged.
I have learned in my profession - You protect your ass, under all Circumstances. Follow Drs. Orders. If uncertain - Question Them. I have many of times.
I have seen suffering. It's horrible. But would never have done what this Nurse did. And Not tell anyone, then have the gall to post it on Social Media.
In the Article, she said she forgot to tell the Dr? Did I read that right? How do you forget?
We've been through this ages ago. Assisted suicide is illegal and in most cases you are not allowed to voluntarily terminate support if you are conscious. The man should have known the law and so should the Nurse.
In America you're not allowed to determine the date and time of your demise.
In some cases if you don't have a properly elected Healthcare proxy setup the Doctor can make a decision with you unconscious and the family would have to take the facility to court.
I can sympathize with her trying to help, but did she even have a witness that this is what the man wanted? I guarantee you it is against company policy and likely state law to do that.
Update. The nurse was not charged with murder. Connie Sneed, LPN, was charged only with practicing medicine without a license.
Quote:
Mull charged 52-year-old Connie Sneed with a level 5 felony for practicing medicine without a license. According to an investigation launched, Sneed had both started and removed the oxygen from the resident without approval by a doctor.
I can sympathize with her trying to help, but did she even have a witness that this is what the man wanted? I guarantee you it is against company policy and likely state law to do that.
I think that's key. How do we know the man really agreed to stop oxygen support and it happened as she claimed. Her story could be a lie.
