It should be noted that his 'rise' was greatly funded by Tom Steyer who threw a crap ton on money at him. This let him beat several candidates who would have been better suited to the general election. For all the media attention, it goes unnoticed that Gillum ran a poor campaign, made no inroads to the Hispanic communities in Florida, and left a huge amount of cash in his campaign that would be available to himself in the future. Had that money been spent on voter outreach, mobilization, get out the vote, spanish language media, consultants who could help guide him among Latin American transplants, and similar activities he likely could have close the 1 point gap with deSantis and also assisted Nelson's senate race which was even tighter.

In the end- he and Bloomberg's 2020 runs and previous efforts (especially Bloomberg who had previously bankrolled Rs/knee capped Dems) showed just how poorly it goes when Dems rely on big money types. I think the Koch Brothers, Addleson, and particularly Trump drove the real billionaires crazy. They entered this all from a vanity standpoint instead of building on more realistic goals as Romney, Warner and a other wealthy pols had done before.

ETA- his sexaulity would not be a big deal had he not taken the effort to specifically present himself as a 'married' man. Both my US Senators are 'confirmed bachelors' and keep getting re-elected in a conservative southern state under the guise of waiting for the right woman... If anything comes out the main consensus will be a few upset value voters and the majority of folks pointing out how darned obvious it was.

Ever hear of black mail? This will be the next racist statement of political correctness to say black mail.

And a few who WERE caught. Like "wide stance" Larry Craig.

DJT set the bar on sexual misbehavior. Are we suddenly supposed to care now?

So what's the scandal here? That he's gay? That he's secretly gay? That he hired hookers? So long as they were all adults, none of these things concern me greatly. This is more of an issue between himself and any spouse he may have. Of course, I'd say the same if he were a republican. I always thought Larry Craig was set up, for example, but I also thought even if it were all true, it was his business.

Didn't Robert Kraft the owner of the New England Patriots have issues with paid services in Florida and what about Trump? I'm sure his continuing escapes have been well played out in the Sunshine state. Maybe the real issue is the morality of Florida rather than the individuals....
