Who knew numbers and getting the correct answer is racist.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages "ethnomathematics" and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer.
An ODE newsletter sent last week advertises a Feb. 21 "Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course," which is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for "dismantling racism in mathematics." The event website identifies the event as a partnership between California's San Mateo County Office of Education, The Education Trust-West and others.
Part of the toolkit includes a list of ways "white supremacy culture" allegedly "infiltrates math classrooms." Those include "the focus is on getting the 'right' answer," students being "required to 'show their work,'" and other alleged manifestations.
Seriously. I swear that the "anti-racism" is the most racist stuff ive ever seen. If there is a single thing in existence that isnt racist...im pretty sure its math. Its concrete, its not subject to opinion or bias. Additionally the Moors of Spain and Portugal were some of the pioneers of early math and they were people of color.
But what worse about it is this supposition that black people are not capable of doing even the simplest tasks. They are being treated ignorantly and being infantalized. I just saw a video of all these lovely not racist at all white people were saying that voter id is racist because black people dont know how to use the websites or to go to the DMV. That is def racism. Or Biden saying poor kids are just as smart as white kids. Black people are neither stupid nor incapable of functioning in society.
It is truly racist to put people of color in a position where they will be incapable of getting high paying STEM jobs because they have been taught not to worry about getting the right answer.
This is the epitome of the soft bigotry of low expectations.
I could see some mathematical story problems potentially having racist elements, but that's coming from an attempt to put math in a cultural context. Pure math itself is very abstract; it is the language through which we understand the universe and really doesn't have much if anything to do with ethnic groups. Group theory yes; racial groups no.
More like if an eighth is worth $20, how much a sixteenth worth.
If a gram costs $30 dollars, how much would two grams cost.
If one rock costs $5 dollars then how much would six rocks and half a gram cost.
See -some black gangsts hood boys were good at maths all along.
