Here we go. ERCOT (Texas has its own power grid) has announced an "Energy Emergency" through at least Tuesday and maybe through Friday.
So much for solar and wind. The wind turbines are frozen and the solar is not even mentioned, as a result of the extensive cloud cover. No, it is fossil fuels that are in VERY HIGH demand and will stay that way for the rest of the week.
They are mentioning the possibility of rotating blackouts to help manage the load, if it comes to that. Wholesale gas and electricity prices are spiking to record levels.

But they're going to charge up 300 million more electric vehicles for US roads off the Eastern and Western interconnects and ERCOT.
Soon record heat and dry will replace the freaky cold shot and you all will forget. FL has not had a winter since 2010.
And, IIRC, here in the Houston metro, the last time we had any snow that stuck long enough to take some quick pictures (white dusting on one’s roof), was in 2010.

Last time for Tampa with real snow was 1977. We have warmed up so much since 1990.

It's -10F here and the turbines are still going. In any case wait until everyone is charging their cars.
Wow, I didn't realize it got that cold in Texas. I always thought of it as a warm state, like Florida. Here in Miami, it's been low 80s/high 70s and balmy for the last few weeks. We do get chilly, but that's 60s for us, not snow or ice.
Any place in FL can have frost at 41f so no big hairy deal. FL has not had a winter in years. I have not seen anything below 35f in years and i am north of Tampa.
