This information is out there. Go here (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/c...ess_deaths.htm) and click the third option, "Excess deaths with and without Covid-19." You'll see that the CDC uses some kind of formula to project the deaths for recent weeks while it waits for the reporting to trickle in from the states. But we're several weeks removed from the end of 2020 now, so the 2020 numbers should be pretty meaningful/trustworthy.
You can download the data for each state (lower right hand corner of the graph of deaths), so if you wanted, you could set up an Excel to compare different states.
My son lives in Florida and no, I wouldn't say that they are doing the best with regard to the pandemic.
You couldn't pay me to live in that state, Covid or no.
