Governor Greg Abbott announced Sunday that the White House has granted a Federal Emergency Declaration for Texas in response to the severe winter weather throughout the state.
According to the governor’s office, the declaration authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide emergency protective measures for mass care and “sheltering and Direct Federal Assistance for all 254 counties in Texas.”
“I thank President Biden for quickly issuing a Federal Emergency Declaration for Texas as we continue to respond to severe winter weather conditions throughout the state,” Abbott said in a statement to KSAT. “This disaster declaration provides Texas with additional resources and assistance that will help our communities respond to this winter weather.”
This comes after Gov. Abbott held a press briefing Saturday, saying he was filing a request for the federal aid just one day before the winter weather set in Central and South Texas.
According to a statement by President Joseph Biden, “FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.”
Additionally, emergency protective measures for mass care and sheltering and direct federal assistance will be provided at “75% federal funding.”
So, once again, Texas is asking the federal government to ball them out.

Floods. Hurricanes. Tropical storms. Blizzards. You name it, anything out of the ordinary and Texans are flummoxed.
I'm not saying they don't need the help. It would've been nice if they had weatherized their equipment. But they are freezing now. Deal with weatherization later.
Years ago, Texas held the record for receiving federal disaster relief more often than any other state. Do they still hold the record?

Refreshing to see Federal Aid authorized without the public lambasting over how its their fault and should suck it up, really like having an adult back in charge...
Own money for choosing to circumvent the National Power-grid that has some God-forbid -- > R E G U L A T I O N S < -- that could have protected them MORE against this debacle and NOT sharing with other states if it needed more they could share...... GUESS WHAT STATES GET LESS OF THEIR TAX DOLLARS BACK??? ONES YOU WOULD DEMONIZE.....
OK keep the rhetoric going. Clearly, unprepared vs even surrounding states who CAN SHARE POWER in a crisis. Sadly, Texas thought ahead.... low regulation and MAYBE .... if they wanted Independence from the US ..... the Grid was already separated.....

Now a Socialist notion of AID by the GOVERNMENT and COMMON GOOD..... has TEXAS NEED AID From states it steals industry from for the cheap...... for now.
