I think the future of this nation will resemble the USSR after its collapse, except perhaps many times worse. There will be no functioning central government to speak of, society will be run by gangsters, pirates, and bandits, there will be rampant criminality and lawlessness, rampant drug and alcohol abuse as well as suicides, rampant homelessness (many times worse than it is now), rolling blackouts, pervasive shortages of many basic goods, a collapsed economy, hyperinflation, the majority of gas stations will be shut down, etc.

I'm thinking it will be more along the lines of a combination of Trinidad and Venezuela. The income disparity will be much larger than it is now, with tens of millions living in poverty. Crime will skyrocket. Gangs will run many areas. If one doesn't have a skill or a trade good luck. There will be no more middle class. What is considered middle class now, the skilled workers, the business owners, the tradespeople, will be considered wealthy. Then there will be the uber wealthy, these people probably won't even live in the country anymore or will stick to the wealthy states.

Caused by the very people who seem hell bent on oestrocizing half of society through censorship and bullying silence tactics. No conspiracy there. Rather than try to come together and make policy choices we can all agree with, we continue on with the status quo barking commands at us thinking they know better.
Both sides are guilty on that front. People love to throw around Democrat rhetoric but forget the Republican rhetoric is just as toxic and bullying. I mean the whole response of "orange man bad" and calling someone who posts something an "NPC" is the same as they see a Democrat calling a poster who says something that is nearly racist, racist.
I don't want to think our great nation is headed for this. I don't want to be doom and gloom, but it is certainly possible if we continue to have a divide. Besides with Trump who galvaninizes just by existing (always been his case,) I can honestly only one side seemingly doesn't want to stop and that's the Republicans who have sided with Trump thinking Trump is their own way out.
I think we'll be better off than most of the world, at least. But there's no doubt that more economic disruptions are heading our way. We can't avoid the consequences of massive debt forever.
