Less than three months after rage-tweeting at a Democratic politician for having the audacity to go to Mexico during the pandemic ... Ted Cruz went to Mexico during a storm that crippled Texas's electrical grid and water supply. Oh ... and during the pandemic!
Not satisfied with that level of hypocritical self-entitlement, as LEOs statewide were overwhelmed with the unfolding disaster, Ted commandeered some of them to chaperone him on his urgent sun-'n-fun getaway.
Then Ted lied and claimed he was just escorting his daughters down there overnight, when in reality he was originally booked until Saturday, and changed this ticket after he was blindsided by the fact that doing what he had recently excoriated a Democrat on social media for doing wasn't playing well on social media. Also, his wife was on the flight. What, one parent can't properly escort a 13 and 10 year old on a three-hour flight?
Is this guy the quintessential GQP Trump-publican or what?
Well said.
When the bar to being a GOP stalwart is set so low, anything goes!
Look at the Trump Supporters on here making excuses for Raphael. Guy won't even use his given name, apparently conservative voters find it off-putting. Perhaps "terrorist sounding"? LOL
School wasn't cancelled. Texas schools are on winter break this week. I'm guessing the trip has been planned for some time and he didn't want to cancel.
As for what could he do:
- be like Beto who has been using his resources to get people to warming centers, deliver food, etc.
- simply be a comfort to his constituents
- call the mega churches in Houston to convince them to open their doors
- simply sit at home, he probably has a generator.

Wonder how Texans feel about secession now?
What a joke. Bob, as he was known at prep school and college, issued a press release on how much he is supposedly doing.
He has all the time in the world to pose for the cameras because he doesn’t have a job and lives off family money
Lots of people in my neighborhood have been helping neighbors but haven’t felt the need to issue a press release about it.
I don’t understand folks who complain about Ted. With no power and water, what people expect him to do? He asked police to escort him to the airport. Just what you expect a good politician to do! However, he is a conservative and...supports Donald Trump! What else do Texans need? I expect major support for him at the next elections...lol.
Cruz called he Mayor of Austin a hypocrite for going to Cabo in December, he was right but he just joined him and other politicians that are violating their own guidelines. He isn't the first and he sure won't be the last but it's always bad to criticize other politicians and do the same.
To make it worse he had one of his staffers call the airport to have police to assist with his arrival back from Cancun, sure they were looking for something to do, slow week.
Did he have the police carry his luggage and load it into his car? I hope he left them a good tip.
cruz did fly to mexico this week for vacation while texans suffer in the cold without heat, food, and water. what a stupid move! cruz deserves every bit of flake thrown at him.
His kids were unexpectedly out of school. He flew them down to Cancun one evening and came back to Texas himself the next morning.
Get a rope.
Not exactly that cut and dry. The original plan was to return on Saturday. His wife could have taken them; it doesn't take two. Then there is the issue of his staff asking for police when they are handling an emergency. Also, its nice his kids are out of school and can get away, but he should put his constituents first and could have spent the day making sure the feds know what help was needed when and where. In short, he wanted his kids to have a break while Texans die from a natural disaster.
Why mean? If your own father threw you under the bus in order to justify a poor choice and tamp down political fallout, suggesting parental emancipation seems downright benevolent.
