Haven't read thru the entire thread but I'm sure it's been already mentioned but the problem with Americans is we are spoiled, used to excellent customer service and relatively fast turn around times.
What happens when we implement universal care? All of a sudden everybody has access to medical care. While this is a nice heart string plucking gesture, it would turn our health care system as we know it upside down?
Need that knee replaced or an have a broken leg? Ok,we have an opening in 8 months. Would you like to book that now? I'm not exaggerating. Ever been upset that your doctor comes in for an appt and sees you for 10 minutes or less? Can you say Medical Factory? All no bueno.
There is already a shortage on doctors and nurses as it is. Imagine what things would look like once the fire hose valve is opened? Yikes.
Because we in America know better than to trust a government that has screwed up everything it has touched for the past 70 years to get anything right or done for that matter without wasting literal truckloads of money. The latest Fed spendfest only has 1/3 of the total price tag allocated to its stated purpose. 2/3 is straight up government waste, flushed down the toilet never to be seen again. TSA costs airports 10x what private security used to cost before 9/11. Oh, and the one airport - SFO - that got to keep its private security performs better in terms of security than every other airport every time. Do you now understand why we don't want them anywhere near our healthcare?
The US Government is NOT the Australian Government.
The don't you quite strongly support privatizing the government, including the military and defense dept. and surely most of all the public schools?

Public schools, certainly. Defense/military - maybe. Government is a necessary evil. I certainly don't want them anywhere near the business of actually providing products and services.
On the 2015/6 campaign trail Trump made clear his intent to replace Obamacare with something wonderful and the government was going to pay for it.
His stance helped to get him nominated and then elected.
Who knows? Maybe at that time he thought he could wave a magic pen and make it happen?
He did manage to change the Republican debate from a simple repeal to a repeal and replace as well as the inclusion of preexisting conditions.
So long as the preexisting condition thing remains a constant, the opportunity for cheaper healthcare does not exist.
The most common preexisting condition is overweight/ obesity, fully controlled by most individuals. The adult obesity rate in the US trebled over the past 50 years. One- third of the population is Diabetic or pre- Diabetic which complicates everything.
If I were Queen, I would have the Federal Government pick up the full tab for healthcare insurance for anyone with a waist measure in the generous healthy range. This would include those covered by private employer group plans and public plans. Oh how the masses would howl.
Give people financial incentive to take greater responsibility for their own health.
Stop the Diabetes epidemic.
The thing with diabetes (type 2, obviously) is that there's two ways of getting it. One is obesity (which is the most prevalent way in the US) and the other is genetics (Asia and parts of South America). While obesity is preventable, genetics are not and countries like China, India, Egypt, and Brazil where you could be fairly fit and still get diabetes at old age don't have the same options in preventing the disease.
So while I think there's a need to focus on stopping the Diabetes epidemic, there's certain people from these countries that are predisposed and hopefully medicine will eventually lead to a cure.
Type 1 diabetes has little to do with weight and is a whole different story.

That’s because most of us don’t pay for our healthcare. We get insurance from our employer, which pays for the best, fastest medical care money can buy. Most of us don’t worry what that costs because we only pay the deductible or the maximum out of pocket.
But someone is paying for this, and not getting a good outcome per dollar spent.

High deductible insurance plans which are often the only plan offered by employers pays very little until after the insured has already paid several thousand dollars out of pocket to meet the high deductible amount. Many people never reach that high deductible amount for minor routine medical care so the insurance is really only good for catastrophic medical conditions.
First and foremost, I wouldn't let Joe Biden set up a doctor's appointment let alone some kind of decent workable health coverage.
People should have the right to choose whatever kind of health plan they want. If they can't afford one, that's what free clinics are for. Let the ineffective meddling government work on funding those.
The fewer things that are left for the government to screw up, the better off we'll be.
So called “ free clinics” are mostly funded by government.
