Eisenhower was considered a dud for a few decades but has looked much better more recently. Maybe Bush2 and Trump make him look better. Reagan is being reevaluated and does not look as good as he once did. The changes he made in the 1980s contribute to some problems we are wrestling with today. Subsequent presidents didn't see or, if they saw, just didn't fix the problems.
The Nixon presidency will be looked at as one of the most interesting and intriguing presidential terms in the late 20th century. We are far enough away from Watergate to see through a different lens. He will always be a villain but there are other facets to his administration.
I don't think people considered Eisenhower a dud for a few decades. He started by ending the Korean War. He didn't get the US involved in another war. The economy was good, but the US didn't have any competition in the world. He avoided dealing with civil rights and avoided the McCarthy problem. He was reelected by a wide margin, which wouldn't have happened it he was considered a dud.

The Interstate Highway system was overdue. We couldn't have survived without it.

Just to add...those two lane highways all went right through the main street of every small town in America.

Correct. Now the heavy interstate traffic is mostly diverted around the towns.
We had trains first then people found the automobile preferable. You are blaming Eisenhower for the market choosing the automobile.
I actually am not, I said it was out of his hands.
But the interstate highway destroyed cities and small towns everywhere.
Also, consumer choice is questionable, there was a cabal between GM, Ford, Dow Chemicals, Standard Oil (Chevron, Exxon, etc.) and a few other companies to destroy public transport and force people in cars.

Don't kid yourself.
I'm about 50 miles from the closest Interstate Highway. What killed the towns around here? Did malls or Interstate Highways do more to kill towns. Now Amazon is killing the malls. What is next?

Do you really think there is a connection between malls and Interstate Highways?
