We are the predominant successful majority. Everyone knows that.
When you attempt to be inclusive, and welcoming, of other cultures as this museum is apparently attempting to do, why would you want to further define the traditional benefactors as being white?
I can't be the only one who "gets" this. When you try to be inclusive, and expand your donor/visitor base, you actually TRY to be inclusive and you don't say "ok everyone who's not white is now being pursued to expand our reach".

Oh well, more white women for me
I'm not ashamed of my culture. Few of us are "ashamed" of our culture. We're just very very sensitive about bragging about how successful we are, compared to others. Not ALL others, as Asians and Indians tend to be very successful in our communities.
But other cultures aren't keeping up. And there's no real reason to point that out specifically, if you're trying to get other donors/clients into your museum.

We'll catch up don't worry about our feelings, it's better to be honest than sneaky
