And why shouldn't they, the Qing government tried to seize all goods supplied by British merchants and trading companies, the war was fought over the right of individual commerce and respect for property.
Libertarians should have loved and supported the British and the French against the anti-market Qing.

God bless the invisible hand.

This isn't debating history, that is already settled. I am trying to use the past to reveal something about modern day libertarians.
The Qing siezed the privately owned goods of British merchants and trading companies who were only selling their goods at market value. The NAP was never breeched.
So then the British government was only responding to seizure of private property and protection for the free market.
It must therefore be concluded the war was just and this anti-authoritarian humbug from libertarians is a mask to hide some deeper evil.
Most Libertarians do not agree with all aspects of pure Libertarianism, just as could be said about Dems & Pubs.
I hold mostly Libertarian beliefs of small government, & minimal government regulation. However, common sense tells me that there are times when some government intervention is needed...like to control the exploitation of children in the sex trade.
Some people can only see absolutes, and in their hateful rage, miss the nuiances of moderation.
I see the government as mostly evil now...totally corrupted on both sides. If we had less government, we'd have less corruption, & less distortion of free trade.
If you need an example of how government distorts free trade, and harms the 99%, just look at what government has done to our healthcare system. Government has killed competition, and costs have risen out of control, and quality of care has declined.
Nearly everything government touches, it destroys. Government isn't trying to make things better anymore, its all about the kickbacks...pay to play, America's for sale to the highest bidder....so sad.
This ends badly.
