... was finding out that Texas, home of America's biggest oil boom and still the state that produces more oil than all the rest combined....

...doesn't have ONE OIL-FIRED POWER GENERATION STATION. They're mostly natural gas, windmills, solar, and a few nukes.

Umm, why no oil burners? In the entire state? Don't tell me they ran out.

They pollute less than coal, are easier to turn off and especially ON after trouble, and they don't quit during freezing rain.

Because the leftist policy has long favored renewables. Yes, even in Texas. If you are surprised, you should listen to all the oil giants talking about going to renewables.

Lignite--a local coal--powered a lot of Texas plants for decades, and still some I think. It would have been the best solution for this winter, but Democratic Washington, DC.

Texas has possibly the most deregulated power grid in the nation. The answer is simple: money. They are expensive to run. Profitability comes first.

Somehow it is Biden's fault. Or it could be Trump's fault, depending on your political view. The left, or the right. But it is the fault of one of those guys, or one of those political philosophies. It can't be a natural disaster that no one saw coming combined with factors relevant to corporate business. I'm going to blame Mike Pence. That's splitting the difference, kind of.

Oil fired Power Generators have not really been preferred for a while. In the Texas area it's just cheaper and cleaner to use Natural Gas or coal. And when I say cleaner I understand that oil fired Power plants require much more to maintain because oil is much harder on the equipment.

This was the case way before global warming ever became an issue. When natural gas technology got up to speed it was an absolute no brainer type decision.

Texas petroleum producers flare enough gases to heat every house in Texas. Gotta be dollars.

Because federal policy started discouraging their use 40 years ago. Most utilities switched to cleaner, cheaper natural gas, which is also abundant in Texas. Petroleum power is only about 1% of the US capacity.

Oil burning power plants went the way of the dinosaurs after the 1973-74 Arab Oil Embargo.
