It's the free market, she offered a service for a marketable wage.

Capitalists hate family structures because it does not price labor based on demand and supply.

This new standard will make households more efficient and cost tax payers less money.

Interesting perspective. I could see the new standard going either way in terms of effect. IMHO, it’s more likely to have a negative affect but time will tell. Hope I am wrong about that...

So prior to the divorce, did she work outside the home? If not, did he charge her room and board?

This is kind of silly, the entire family unit shares income, food production, and even shelter (!!!).

Trying to reconstruct families as a voluntary market of free labor is just trying to appropriate capitalism to an age old system that has existed since the dawn of man.
