It's really disturbing and very heartbreaking to see all the cruel comments here insinuating these people deserved to die. They were all human beings; whether or not they were breaking the law doesn't mean they deserved immediate execution. Also, the lengths people will go to politicize a tragic accident is disgusting.

Correct. The news reports that area has been a popular smuggling route for quite a while. The investigation is turning in that direction.
"The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to meet Wednesday with the California Highway Patrol amid growing evidence that the group was being smuggled into the country. Special Agents from Homeland Security Investigations San Diego responded to the scene of today's fatal crash in El Centro, California, and have initiated a human smuggling investigation," the agency said. "The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time."
