Georgia’s House of Representatives passed an omnibus bill that would reform a range of election rules, including over absentee voting, voter ID for absentee voting, time limits for voting, and more.
Per the [HB 531] bill, ballots would be required to be printed on “security paper that incorporates features which can be used to authenticate the ballot as an official ballot but which do not make the ballot identifiable to a particular elector.“
Was there a state requirement during the 2020 election, that all ballots used for counting votes must be paper ballots?
Was there a requirement that the ballot be marked in the voter's own hand? A paper ballot whose vote indications are printed by a machine, is not a legal vote? Is there such a requirement in this HB 531 bill?
Hmm. In the House bill, Section 3 says that, in case of an emergency or a threat to the public health, a state board of some kind will have the authority to pass or modify election laws.
But one of the major sticking points in the 2020 election, was that the US Constitution says that election laws in each state must be made by the state's legislature. And nobody else. Is this Board mentioned in Section 3 of this House bill, the state legislature?
Does the U.S. Constitution say that a state's legislature can delegate its power to make election laws, to a non-legislature group, and let that group make the election laws? I seem to recall that question coming up shortly after the 2020 election. I don't remember the answer. Anybody know?
This, in concert with other efforts to restrict voting by the number of days and locations, clearly indicates that that they want to discourage people from standing in the inevitable long lines.
What is so wrong about voting on Sunday? Here's a hint: what is wrong is that the working poor have to pull long hours at low pay, sometimes two or even a combination of three different entry level type jobs just to get by, and they are available to vote right after church but almost no other time. Republicans don't want the voice of these hard working people to be heard, it spoils their little game they play.
One does not see this type of election rigging in states without a rock solid Republican control. Purple states don't do it. Blue states don't do it. Red state Republicans are afraid of the will of their own people, they now see their grip is tenuous and they could lose it at any time.
We have already seen how when challenged or indignant people are willing to stand in God-awful long lines, especially when they are upset with the status quo, this is what Republicans are afraid of. Therefore, giving sustenance or refreshment to people exhausted and frustrated in long lines is now a crime!
The Republicans have shown their hands, we know their racket.
There is no other way of interpreting these machinations other than as an attempt to restrict and impede the voting rights of people. Even a conservative court would be appalled by this bill.
Progress? NO. More like further vote supression!!!
