Just a point to consider any time a vote goes down like this, look and see if there was some language or attached legislation which was a partisan attempt to slip in something that still needed to be debated, or was voted down in previous attempts in other legislation.
Since the republicans have no good ideas of their own - the party now exists solely to oppose anything any Democrat proposes.

The party of NO and no ideas.

Agreed. Even in states where marijuana is legalized, it's not regulated very well. I've read a lot of stories and heard first hand accounts of people who bought legalized marijuana, and because the product is not very well regulated at all, they suffered bad reactions, or were unexpectedly stoned for hours.

How to survive an edible marijuana overdose

Despite some popular perceptions, marijuana is not a risk-free drug. Edibles in particular pose a threat to novice users because they deliver larger doses of THC than inhaling, and, once ingested, the user has little choice but to ride it out.

Sure, you can ride it out, but what if you were in your car, or you alone at the time, or in unfamiliar surroundings? It's very difficult to label marijuana so that a person knows what to expect. You can drink one beer, but at least you will not unexpectedly find you are drunk off your ass for the next eight hours. Also, because some highs can last for hours, will we have sufficient laws and regulations to determine what is, and what is not impaired driving? Will consumers even be able to determine if they are able to legally drive?

It's difficult to even find articles that discuss this, because 99% of every article is written by people who just want to legalize pot, and that's where it ends. there is absolutely no thought as to how to properly, and safely regulate it so people know what to expect when they make a purchase.

Way to not even bother to engage in a reasoned debate. Either vote for everything the Democrats want, or you are a bad person.

you need to start with the first step of cannabis is not only a recreational drug...it has less negative effecs than alcohol

Cannabis does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Cannabis is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.

Cannabis has been used for medicinal purposes for approximately 4,000 years. In the early 3rd century AD, Hua Tuo was the first known person in China to use cannabis as an anesthetic. Cannabis was prescribed to treat vomiting and hemorrhaging. Since then, Cannabis has been used in Ancient Egypt, India and many Islamic countries for medicinal purposes.William Brooke O’Shaughnessy (lower right), an Irish doctor has been said to be responsible for bringing Cannabis to the Western World as a medical treatment in the 1830’s. It was used mainly as treatment for migraines, as a sleeping aid, as an analgesic and anticonvulsant.

Hemp seeds contain a protein that is more nutritious and more economical to produce than soybean protein. Hemp seeds are not intoxicating. Hemp seed protein can be used to produce virtually any product made from soybean: tofu, veggie burgers, butter, cheese, salad oils, ice cream, milk, etc. Hemp seed can also be ground into a nutritious flour that can be used to produce baked goods such as pasta, cookies, and breads.

WORLD HUNGER COULD END. A large variety of food products can be generated from hemp. The seeds contain one of the highest sources of protein in nature. ALSO: They have two essential fatty acids that clean your body of cholesterol. These essential fatty acids are not found anywhere else in nature! Consuming pot seeds is the best thing you could do for your body. Eat uncooked hemp seeds.

A large variety of food products can also be generated from hemp. The seeds contain one of the highest sources of protein in nature. The list of uses for this plant is endless for anything from medicines to high quality paint. Also take into account that Hemp grows well in a variety of climates and soil types. It is naturally resistant to most pests, precluding the need for pesticides. It grows tightly spaced, out-competing any weeds, so herbicides are not necessary. It also leaves a weed-free field for a following crop.

Hemp (cannabis) contains:

* All 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce.
* A high protein percentage of the simple proteins that strengthen immunity and fend off toxins.
* Eating hemp seeds in any form could aid, if not heal, people suffering from immune deficiency diseases. This conclusion is supported by the fact that hemp seed has been used to treat nutritional deficiencies brought on by tuberculosis, a severe nutrition blocking disease that causes the body to waste away.3
* Nature’s highest botanical source of essential fatty acid, with more essential fatty acid than flax or any other nut or seed oil.
* A perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 Linoleic Acid and Omega-3 Linolenic Acid - for cardiovascular health and general strengthening of the immune system.
* A superior vegetarian source of protein considered easily digestible.
* A rich source of phytonutrients, the disease-protective element of plants with benefits protecting your immunity, bloodstream, tissues, cells, skin, organs and mitochondria.
* The richest known source of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids.

smoking anything can damage your brain

but hemp(marijuana ) is not dangerous otherwise

Pot is NOT harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.

The truth is if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! Entrepreneurs have not been educated on the product potential of pot. The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about an extremely versatile plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.

Where did the word 'marijuana' come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant.

THE WONDER PLANT

Hemp has a higher quality fiber than wood fiber. Far fewer caustic chemicals are required to make paper from hemp than from trees. Hemp paper does not turn yellow and is very durable. The plant grows quickly to maturity in a season where trees take a lifetime.

ALL PLASTIC PRODUCTS SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP SEED OIL. Hempen plastics are biodegradable! Over time, they would break down and not harm the environment. Oil-based plastics, the ones we are very familiar with, help ruin nature; they do not break down and will do great harm in the future. The process to produce the vast array of natural (hempen) plastics will not ruin the rivers as Dupont and other petrochemical companies have done. Ecology does not fit in with the plans of the Oil Industry and the political machine. Hemp products are safe and natural.

MEDICINES SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP. We should go back to the days when the AMA supported cannabis cures. 'Medical Marijuana' is given out legally to only a handful of people while the rest of us are forced into a system that relies on chemicals. Pot is only healthy for the human body.

CLOTHES SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP. Hemp clothing is extremely strong and durable over time. You could hand clothing, made from pot, down to your grandchildren. Today, there are American companies that make hemp clothing; usually 50% hemp. Hemp fabrics should be everywhere. Instead, they are almost underground. Superior hemp products are not allowed to advertise on fascist television. Kentucky, once the top hemp producing state, made it ILLEGAL TO WEAR hemp clothing! Can you imagine being thrown into jail for wearing quality jeans?

The world is crazy...but that does not mean you have to join the insanity. Get together. Spread the news. Tell people, and that includes your children, the truth. Use hemp products. Eliminate the word 'marijuana.' Realize the history that created it. Make it politically incorrect to say or print the M-word. Fight against the propaganda (designed to favor the agenda of the super rich) and the bull****. Hemp must be utilized in the future. We need a clean energy source to save our planet. INDUSTRIALIZE HEMP!

The liquor, tobacco and oil companies fund more than a million dollars a day to Partnership for a Drug-Free America and other similar agencies. We have all seen their commercials. Now, their motto is: ‘It's more dangerous than we thought.’ Lies from the powerful corporations, that began with Hearst, are still alive and well today.

The brainwashing continues. Now, the commercials say: If you buy a joint, you contribute to murders and gang wars. The latest anti-pot commercials say: If you buy a joint...you are promoting TERRORISM! The new enemy (terrorism) has paved the road to brainwash you any way THEY see fit.

There is only one enemy; the friendly people you pay your taxes to; the war-makers and nature destroyers. With your funding, they are killing the world right in front of your eyes. HALF A MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR ARE CAUSED BY TOBACCO. HALF A MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR ARE CAUSED BY ALCOHOL. NO ONE HAS EVER, EVER DIED FROM SMOKING POT!! In the entire history of the human race, not one death can be attributed to cannabis. Our society has outlawed grass but condones the use of the KILLERS: TOBACCO and ALCOHOL. Hemp should be declassified and placed in DRUG stores to relieve stress. Hardening and constriction of the arteries are bad; but hemp usage actually enlarges the arteries...which is a healthy condition. We have been so conditioned to think that: Smoking is harmful. That is NOT the case for passive pot.

Ingesting THC, hemp's active agent, has a positive effect; relieving asthma and glaucoma. A joint tends to alleviate the nausea caused by chemotherapy. You are able to eat on hemp. This is a healthy state of being.

As if that is what your post was about.

Tell us, specifically, what the republicans didn't want to vote for other than legalized pot?

Fine, great, wonderful, but when you buy an edible from a marijuana vendor, you don't know what the hell you are buying. All marijuana is not equal, in the reaction a person will have who smokes or ingests it, and the amount of time they are too impaired to drive or operate machinery is also not going to be the same.

It's like buy an alcohol product that just says it's a drink, and you don't know from the taste how drunk it will make you in the next half hour, or if you will still be drunk off your ass eight hours later. Simply legalizing marijuana and calling it good, is irresponsible.

So how will the government regulate marijuana so the consumer knows what they are getting? That's the question I cannot seem to find an answer to. Do you have one, besides the nutritional value of marijuana?

You are onto something, here.

The only countries that don’t have serious challenges associated with recreational drugs don’t engage funding or resources on the War. Instead, they impose harsh consequences. The US has been unwilling to do so and continues to spend on the War.

More modern approaches are focused on harm reduction and providing so called treatment to those that desire. As it relates to opiate/ opioid addiction, treatment is increasingly medicated assisted, either Methadone or Suboxone. For long term addicts who have failed at other approaches, medical grade Heroin may be administered.

This eliminates the daily grind of obtaining funds ( typically theft) and scoring between doses and overdoses.

While all recreational drugs, including marijuana, remain illegal in Portugal, it has decriminalized posession for personal use and instead focus on trafficking.

There is no question that most addicted to hard drugs began their journey with marijuana. Most people however, don’t progress to hard drugs. I don’t see much difference between marijuana and alcohol.

I don’t use substances and have no horse in this race. It is my understanding that the black market for marijuana persists in those states that have legalized recreational use/ sales because the black market sells inferior product for less, given state, county and local taxes.

Thinking more states and local governments within are going to be more open to legalizing recreational marijuana to offset the very real costs of Covid.
