If they don't trust the federal government, and if they are too "independent" for regulation, and if they don't care about other Americans, and if they don't feel any bonds of patriotism ...... maybe we should have encouraged them to secede right after their storm, and they could then have a chance to see how they like it on their own.

Without even getting into environmental degradation, gun violence, and income inequality we haven't seen since the Gilded Age, this the the moment for anyone who understands that a modern post-industrial country in an international economy needs a strong, fair government "to stand athwart history, and yell stop" at those who weaken us through a cultish devotion to deregulation at any cost.
Today the nine most terrifying words in the English language may be, “I'm a Republican politician and I run your government.”

Nature told them to chill out, man.

Sorry, that's probably in bad taste.

They say that all the time. We are supposed to be worried. We're not.

To go from a wealthy state with status in a federation to a poor nation in an unbalanced alliance with said federation is to secede.

As divided as the nation has become over the last 30 years, secession will inevitably happen, IMO. But it will likely include roughly 1/3 of the US, not just a single state.

Bear in mind, that if Texas had seceded before the storm, Texans would have kept 300B in Federal tax revenue within the state - considerably less than the amount Texans would expect from the federal government.

Mind you, I am not pro-secession. I just believe it will likely happen within a generation and the implications at both the state a federal levels are far-reaching.

Texas cannot secede. It can divide into 5 states.

Texans should make good on the threat. Guaranteed other states would follow, just like as was seen with the lifting of covid restrictions. It wasn't that long ago TDS afflicted Californians wanted to do the same.
I support any and all secession movements. The US fed govt is greatest evil in the history of mankind.

Likely if the harris biden sanders admin and its left wing crazies appointed to head federal agencies continues to destroy our country, then not only only texas will pull out.

Each week is another harris biden sanders disaster for America.

Surely, no real democrats can support what they party is now doing.

Texas will not be alone.

Unless a loophole can be exploited to rid the government of socialist control.

remember the alamo!

If they secede I am in total support to build a wall to protect the rest of America from Texas.

Kind of hard to secede as an independent nation when Mr. Biden opens up your southern border.
