Is there a law that requires them to verify legal status? NO. Tell the dems to stop focusing on rewarding illegals and start focusing on making life impossible for them. In fact the left would scream racism and xenophobia if employers started doing what you suggest.

You want employers to stop hiring illegals? Me too. pass the law and create a reliable and robust E-Verify system. Then hammer any scumbag caught hiring illegals, but also hammer the scumbag illegal.
I would make E-verify mandatory for all employers, schools, landlords, government agencies and police departments.
