Says she applied to "more than 20".

So, that's an average of less than $50K/school, divided by 4 years, that's ~$12K/yr.

Big whoop.

An average of $60,000 per school. What am I missing? She doesn't pocket the money from the schools offering financial aid where she doesn't attend.

1.2 million total from 18 colleges is 66.5k per college. Average total cost for private colleges is about 51k so 66k is about right for a full scholarship.

I would question a full scholarship with a B average but perhaps there are other factors.

It's become a thing.

My kids applied to one or two. But some of their peers applied to double digit number of universities -- even ones they knew they would never go to.

I don't get it.

And headline misleading.....a million from 18 colleges. Given low income status, moderate academic status, she was able to win many of the 'needs' scholarships offered.

So she got offered under an average of 55K for each college. Not exactly a windfall ---- that is under 14K a year for a four year program right?

Colleges can't charge different races different amounts to attend their college so they've come up with this scheme to do it.

The question is....did the school bypass white students from poor backgrounds with better grades to offer the scholarship to a black student? If so, it’s racist.

This news story merely highlights the intellectual deficit among black youth -- this is nothing to celebrate.
A B-average student is the best the black community can offer?

Good for her, regardless.

At least she's doing something..

Give Credit where credit is due.

Let's not knock her down.

There are plenty of scholarships out there that are need based or based on some other factor.
