800 nurses have voted to strike at St. Vincent's Hospital in Boston. Story

"The nurses said in a press release that Tenet has refused to address their call for needed staffing improvements to ensure safer patient care."

"The hospital issued a statement Sunday saying they are disappointed in what they called an irresponsible decision to call a strike in the middle of an ongoing pandemic..."

The nurses pointed out that the hospital owner, Tenet Health, made 400 million in profits last year.

I've always supported private unions (not public). Who is right here? Are the nurses irresponsible for striking during a pandemic or is the company irresponsible for not staffing the hospital appropriately during the pandemic. New Jersey makes hospitals publish their staffing ratios but I'm not sure about Mass. I wonder how the ratios actually stack up to recommended ratios.

Need more information, but I guess a strike should be expected after 18 months of failed negotiations.

This hospital says they have enough staff to cover the strike. But, even so, I don't think the nurses are "letting the patients die" any more than the hospital is letting them die. You can't force a person to work.

Then I guess they don’t need the nurses.

We are being forced to work all the time. Not sure where you get the idea that we can’t force other people to work.

You can't force people to work. You can fire them if they don't work but people have the right not to work if they choose.

This sounds like a contract dispute, I could be wrong.

Doesn't sound like a staffing issue, as there isn't much info on this at all.

What was the ratio? My Place - always complains of shortage, when in fact we're never short, just some lazies, not wanting to "work". I'm not saying this is the issue here at all. I work at a small hospital.

Just so many know - Hospitals are or at least were getting MASSIVE covid monies.
