Woman I know, also with 3 kids, said she’s going on a lavish vacation with the money. She’s not sure where yet.
Strange language. I don’t know anybody who would use the word ‘lavish’ in real life. She actually said that, or was that your judgement of the way she’s spending the money?
you fail to realize more people in a house means more electricity, more food, usually means 2 cars and more for insurance.
I’m not sure how one person getting $1400 is unfair.
By that logic parents should be paid more than non-parents by employers. It used to be used as an excuse to pay men (providers) more than women. No one owes anyone anything for choosing to have kids and accepting the responsibilities that come with it.
This bill was the largest welfare hand-out in American history. If anyone does not see that, they have not done the math and do not realize how much they are getting (it is significantly more than 1400 pp if you have children. It is closer to 17K if you include the CTC's and EIC's).

And lavish is subjective.
We are a single income home and I think we do well. We are by no means in 'need' and we are getting money. I think the cut off is way too high. There is no reason we should be getting money. We have lost no income, have had no increased expenditures.
I will spend the money on a 'lavish' espresso machine.
I will be using lavish all day today.
I felt the same with the two stimulus bills passed last year.
I would have rathered the states get more money to administer the vaccine, help families who have lost people because of COVID...blah blah......
Why can't our politicians do a better job with all of it.
Surprise! More child tax credits in the works via Democrats.

ELIZABETH — Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said Friday that he is working to permanently expand tax credits that were temporarily boosted as apart of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, a move he said could help middle class families across the country.
“I've tried to help coordinate a full court press in America to make the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit changes permanent in the United States of America, so we can join our industrial peers and invest in America's children,” he said during a press event in Elizabeth with Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Gov. Phil Murphy and others to discuss the American Rescue Plan Biden signed into law on Thursday.

Lavish was my short-hand description of it. What she told me is that she is taking the kids to Disney World this summer and staying in one of the resorts right on the property. Those places are very expensive.
(I didn't want to give the specifics in my first post, in case someone recognized the person. But I doubt she's the only mom with three kids planning to go to Disney World this summer.)
not necessarily. My wife and I have one child and NEVER qualified for the child tax credit.

I know raising kids is expensive. But this variance seems a bit out of proportion. 12K is a down payment on a house. $ 1400 covers one month of rent in a metro area.
Did I miscalculate? What are your thoughts on this?
