If we looked at the budget that spends our tax money, I would suggest that all of us would have at least one item that doesn't apply to us but our tax money contributes to it.

You think working 15 hours a week for 7.25$ is enough to support yourself.
Yes my grand goes to school full time, plays sports, and works at a ff joint. He is still as much a dependent and expensive as a 16 year old. He pays for his gas and part of his car insurance and pays for some of the personal things I use to like hair cuts. I think he grossed 3K last year.
I get teens can work and help pay for their stuff, but working and paying taxes they dont get their own stimulus check at 17 and cant be claimed for the stimulus. IDK perhaps at 17 you made over 12K per year and filed yourself and was not eligible to be counted as a dependent on your parents taxes.

It goes towards a new truck. With some savings and selling his boat, trade in, etc. Thats what he was going on about anyway. Last vehicle they bought they paid cash. Im sure any truck he buys will be more than 11.6.

Government tends to favor women and children while extracting from single males. Children are individual choices, why in the world would the government give them credit and benefits from Taxpayers to support their individual choice? Because, like always, they like to steal from Peter to pay Paul. You know who else has multiple children? Yep, Illegals.
Men, especially WHITE males should think twice before fighting in any war for the current US. If they fight in any war, it should be one to start a new country.

Agreed. I served in the military as a young man and I have advised my son not to do the same. There's no point in risking your life over a banker's war. Defending your country is noble, defending some oligarch's treasure is foolish.

Single (divorced) mom of one here and get just $1400. That's because my ex and I made an agreement and I let him claim our daughter on his taxes as his dependent (in turn, he lets me file as head of household). He won't get any money though since he makes too much. I make $85K a year, but since I file as head of household, the cutoff for me is $120K. I also don't get SNAP or EBT cards or anything like that. I live a comfortable middle class life, own my home, I used to be able to say I had no debt, but I bought a car this year and financed half of it (Although I could pay it all off if I wanted to, but I rather invest the money instead of paying off the car since the car loan is only 0.9% on $14K).

Back to the topic at hand. I fall into the same boat as single without kids people when it comes to the stimulus checks. I don't feel like I am getting the shaft though. This wasn't money I was even counting on and I don't need it. I would equate being bitter over this to being the kid complaining my brother's dessert is bigger than mine. At least I got some desert! Some people who paid for the (figurative) cake don’t get any. I am very good with budgeting and didn't lose my job with the pandemic.

I used the last check to, ironically, pay my federal taxes. I will just put this one in my money market account and save this one for a while. I plan to take my daughter to visit college campuses when things open up. I will spend the money on gas, hotels, eating out, etc, then. I used the first check to buy a new refrigerator (which I still don't have... it's on order). My old one, which is supposed to be frost free, keeps freezing up (including ice in the fridge part) and I have to pull everything out and defrost it once a month. Luckily it's still running, just not well. I did make sure I bought a fridge made in the US since the idea behind these checks is to stimulate the US economy.

It is excessively unfair. Why not split the difference.

I don't have a problem with the per-child tax credits even though I won't benefit from it.

But millions of Republican proto-fascists will be screaming about socialism as they happily receive that benefit.

I have been paying in to SS for 40 years. When I retire I think that SS I paid in will count towards it. It may not be the exact same dollars but it not like I didnt contribute 40 years of payments. SS not only pays for retirees but disability and survivors benefits. Which include children.

I know raising kids is expensive. But this variance seems a bit out of proportion. 12K is a down payment on a house. $ 1400 covers one month of rent in a metro area.

Did I miscalculate? What are your thoughts on this?
You have a problem with that? How about having a wife that only gets 4 full paid weeks for a pregnancy. The rest of it not paid in full. Some mothers get zilch. Something really wrong with this picture that a developed advanced country that can not even provide this. Another word would be selfish self centered population. I don't want to pay taxes for lazy people excuse. Stop asking why there is high crime and division in this great ole USA. Extremes are growing.
