Jimmy Carter was a transformative president. Its too early to tell about Biden. Much of what we take for granted today is due to Carter. When Carter became president, banking, transportation and communications were regulated industries. Imagine the federal government determining the rates trucking and rail would charge, where they could go and when. States even had "ports of entry" for trucks - only some roads could be used. That's long gone. It was actually illegal to own your own phone since the phone companies had a monopoly. For some reason I still remember the number 1191...that's the number the phone repair man would dial when in your house to make all the phones ring, that way he (and it was always a he back then) could tell if you had a bootlegged phone. Deregulation made our even using the internet possible, it opened up a wide world.

The only thing Carter has in common with Biden is that they are both terrible Presidents.

Everybody hated Carter. IMO, he didn't play by the rules in the Swamp. Trump fans should love him.

Carter said what needed saying but most didn't want to hear. Like drive less, turn the heat down and put on a sweater.

The right hated him because he wouldn't start a war over the hostages, And the failed rescue attempt showed the world USA military might was an illusion. A helicopter crashed, ending the rescue attempt because the engine couldn't run in the desert dust. He also gave the canal back to Panama. And he didn't spend much time condemning Castro. When Castro turned all the prisoners out, Carter wouldn't let them drown at sea. They came to Florida. That was widely condemned. Turns out when the became citizens they voted Republican.

Interest rates were still high due to 2 things. The oil embargo and the remains of the twice instituted wage and price controls installed by Nixon. But people continued to buy houses and cars.

The progressives hated him enough to run a Kennedy against him in the primary. The feminist were on his ass all day every day. Whatever he did for women, Eleanor Smeal was never satisfied.

The white supremacist hated him for calling them out.

The athletes hated him for boycotting the Olympics.

And then there was Billy. But Carter would not disown him. At least he didn't keep him locked up in the White house like LBJ did his brother Sam.

When elected, Carter really did turn over all his assets to a 3rd party. run trust. That included the shared with his siblings property and peanut farm. When he went home, defeated, he and his siblings were bankrupt.

And yes, I still have my Texas democratic primary button that quotes Carter's remark about Kennedy, "We'll whip his ass". And we did in Texas.

FWIW, when he works for Habitat, there is no photo op of him holding a hammer and putting it down when the picture is taken. He works.

Carter was a dedicated Christian who lived his beliefs. Turns out, American are not so fond of leaders who really do follow the golden rule and the Beatitudes.

444, 444 days our people were left to rot in Iran while Carter waffeled over what to do. Carter is the very definition of an incompetent, weak, gutless so-called-leader who when faced with his failed re-election loss, announced defeat before all the polls were closed. Worst president of all time.

Carter had some deep seated prejudices and harbored some very backwards ideals but he was intelligent even if not always on target with his thinking. And his integrity and duty to the country wasn't in question. Biden... he's a dumbass, a crook, a racist, a creep, most likely a traitor and senility has made all that worse.

Carter was President in an era when the country was far less politically divided, and when honesty was important. I'm not sure where I stand with Biden.

Not really. I didn't agree with his policies, but at least he was coherent. He was also the brunt of lots of jokes; especially brother Billy and his beer.

I've read that Ulysses S. Grant was a drunk. Again, he may have been a drunk, but he was likely at least coherent.
