Do you think that will satisfy the antimask and antivaccine people any happier? If behavior doesn't change, I don't see how we do not break that record.
But they are fighting for their freedom!
It should would help to raise the average intelligence.
I don't see a reason to wear a mask outdoors, but I would never go without a mask indoors in a public place such as a store.
I think it is time to start calling out people who are not wearing masks in stores. I really don't want to break the 1918 record.
If the store doesnt require it, and it bothers you, then shop elsewhere or get curbside pickup. Some of us had covid, have antibodies and dont have covid, so can't spread it. You can't spread a disease you don't have.
Rudely saying something to someone without a mask, in a store without a mask policy just exposes you as a virtue signaling whackjob. Mind your own business, or get curbside service/shop where there is a mask requirement.

I would vote you the most appropriately named poster on PaOC if not for "The Fragile." He's fun. In any case congratulations on your PHD in overwrought hyperbole.
I started going to the grocery store last week without the useless mask. People say nothing, and I know many of them are trying to work up the courage to do the same. Lets start a trend.
So everybody just needs to brave up and risk getting infected with COVID-19. After all, once infected by it, they may not even feel sick from it. Who knows how many people on here would say that is exactly how being infected by COVID1-19 turned out for them.
If you actually believe that anyone wants you to wear a mask forever, you would have to be out of your mind.
We just want this pandemic to subside. That'as it!
The fastest way to accomplish that would be sensible hygiene, right now, including frequent hand washings and masks in public. It's not forever, we just need to be sensible for a time.
It appears that this period will be lengthened by those refusing to go with what is necessary - for now. We've had to do so for this long, why not for a bit longer until it is deemed safer for all?
None of us have liked the inconvenience of following guidelines and restrictions, but understood the importance of. As with much else, there are those who follow rules, laws, directions, requests and those who will not.
I hope that even after, it will have been impressed upon for all to be conscious of keeping hands clean, which is simple and would help prevent the transmission of colds and flu. Using sanitizer regularly when not near a sink is important (and have always cleaned shopping cart handles way prior to Covid, not having become ill for many, many years.).

Old people in poor health should stay at home and not get too close to anyone there. By refusing to do so, they end up sick in the hospital. Lots of other people think the virus was far overblown and want to get back to normal real soon. My friend slipping off of ice on her front porch and breaking 7 ribs, requiring surgery to fix them has been a hell of a lot worse ordeal to her than her brief and mild illness from covid. She's now on temporary disability healing from the fall.

OH, dear...that's terrible. I feel for those having to go through anything medically-necessary besides all the stressful circumstances having existed for so long.
I go out to do errands a few times a month and am always conscious of everything.
"Wearing a cloth mask to help protect other people is oppressive."
No, it's not oppressive. Far from it. What has really been oppressive all too heck is the government shutting down stores, schools, stadiums, indoor arenas and so on. It caused many thousands of people to get laid off. I couldn't get a haircut for 6 weeks. I was going to buy tickets to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra play Beethoven's 9th in my town. That was canceled. At least wearing a mask doesn't cancel your freedom and liberty any more than wearing a coat and cap, because it's cold.
When the Iraq war was gearing up in the post 9/11 America we kept hearing "don't sacrifice freedom for safety". My how the tables have turned.
