The Seuss company stopped selling six books and the ones that that were discontinued were not among the most popular in the collection. I remember having most of the Dr. Seuss collection when I was a kid and none of the six discontinued books were part of it. However, if you listen to the GOP you would think that all Dr. Seuss books had been banned and that they have had their childhood completely ruined. Dr. Seuss books are apparently the new arena of the liberal destruction of American society.

Question is, why is this a political issue in the first place? What is the Republican solution to the Dr. Seuss issue? Do conservatives believe the children's book industry should be nationalized so that the Seuss company would be forced to continue printing the six books they have discontinued? Should the toy industry be nationalized so that Mr. and Ms. Potato Head continue to be sold as separate kits?

It seems a lot of people have confused private companies voluntarily choosing to stop selling certain things, or changing their services with political issues.

We already went over this in the actual Dr. Seuss thread. The books weren't taken down out of the blue. There was a concerted effort since at least 2016 to have some if not all of the books removed. Two individuals can take credit for having "cancelled" the first round of Seuss books. You can read that "study" here:

https://sophia.stkate.edu/rdyl/vol1/iss2/4/

The reason this goes further, and it does, is because they spell out in that "study" that they use Critical Race Theory to "carefully" take a look back at the Seuss collection. If you don't know anything about CRT, very briefly, it posits that racism is rampant, the norm, every day and it is in every interaction. It's not was there racism in that interaction, it's how did racism manifest in that situation. There's no chance it wasn't there and you as a CRTs must find it and point it out for the world to see. And guess what they found? Racism! AMAZING!

So it goes a little deeper than just a few random books that you didn't have so who cares...

The Seuss family was bullied and pressured by a group called conscious kid. The family members voiced their opinion that they did not want the books removed and it should have been handled differently. It’s more critical race theory in your face crapola rather than politics. As it is, the side doing the bullying is the left, so republicans appear to push back, as they should.

And they didn't leave without leaving a little carrot for the next radical:

Limitations
This study centers racialized depictions of characters; however, future research should be intersectional and further assess gender, religion, disability, sexuality, class, etc. In addition, the
scope of this study centers human depictions, but animal characters can be seen transmitting problematic racial messaging as seen in The Sneetches and Horton Hears a Who!Only four of
Seuss' books featuring non-human characters were analyzed, so future research should also include an in-depth analysis of additional non-human characters.
They have 12,090 Patrons and they're probably making $12,000 - $60,000 a month talking about how oppressed they are. Maybe even more.

Low intellect people fall for the latest manufactured outrage of the day. Right wing think tanks use situations like this to motivate their base. Tucker Carlson tried with the pregnant women in the military thing and it backfired. The "war" on Xmas. "Cancel culture". All of it . People smarter than us came up with this stuff to motivate their voters.

The fact that grown men and women care about Mr Potato head and Dr Seuss books tell you all you need to know.

Anyone who believes Carlson is a low intellect person may be perhaps projecting. His intelligence is sky high compared to most posters here on CD.

He's no more intelligent than all the other talking heads who get their listeners to believe their every word.
