I guess it was too much effort to post the Washington Post correction, and no it was not total garbage. The recording of the phone call was not available so they relied on interviews, the WSJ and other papers printed the same.

Really not a vindication of Trump, a president should not be calling election officials in any state . The larger issue is Trump being involved in state elections, he should not be calling the investigator in the Georgia elections.

ATLANTA — In a story January 9, 2021, about a phone call between then-President Donald Trump and a lead Georgia elections investigator, The Associated Press, based on information provided by a source, erroneously reported that Trump pressed the investigator to “find the fraud” and said it would make the investigator a national hero. A recording of the call made public two months later revealed that Trump did not say either and instead said that if the investigator looked into Fulton County the investigator would “find things that are gonna be unbelievable.” Trump also told the investigator: “When the right answer comes out, you’ll be praised.”

Yep. I am not sure why all these Trump supporters are celebrating. Trump was still in the wrong to make that phone call.

Splitting hairs?

Trump made 2 calls to Georgia. Both were recorded by the recipients, legal in Georgia. One call was to the Republican Secretary of State. The other call was to a Georgia election official.

Credible news issue corrections.

The content of Trump’s call to the Georgia election official was attributed to the AP who subsequently issued a correction and WAPO published it.

AP reported “ Find the fraud” vs the tape “ will find things that are gonna be unbelievable”

AP reported: “ You will be a national hero” vs the tape “ When the right answer comes out, you’ll be praised”.

The source was the AP, not WAPO. Credible media issues corrections. The AP issued the correction and WAPO reported it.

The difference between what was reported vs the tape is insignificant.

A POTUS making two phone calls to state officials to communicate he needs 11,780 votes is highly inappropriate.

Trump alleged very specific allegations ( based on hearsay) and the Georgia Secretary of State corrected Trump.

I have no recollection of Trump subsequently issuing a correction.

That both Georgia officials taped Trump’s calls ( legal in Georgia) and subsequently released the tapes demonstrates the difference were more of a nuance than a misrepresentation.

Conservatives learned after the early Arizona calling you cant trust Fox
Liberals learned after the Hunter/Big guy cover up you cant trust the MSM.

Hopefully people start checking sites that cover both sides like realclearpolitics.com or allsides.com , since they all believe they can get away with it now.

When a POTUS makes 2 calls to state officials looking for 11,780 votes is beyond inappropriate.

The Ga Secretary of State made clear there was no substance to very specific allegations made by Trump, attributed to “ people are saying”.

Trump tends to be the source of most Trump news. Judges, including Republican judges appointed by Trump, dismissed 60 suits due to lack of evidence. “ People are saying” is not credible evidence.

Some of Trump’s sources are being sued for $ billions for defamation by those harmed. The plaintiffs appear to have a solid basis for suit. It is up to Trump’s sources to prove otherwise.

Some media were quick to disengage from reporting misinformation upon receipt of Cease and Desist letters.
