The policies - strict or not - any state at all - were meant to drag it out. Not stop it. That's all. All you did with any restrictions was change the timeline. CA - by locking down early - changed nearly nothing - as the virus wasn't "out in force" there yet - but later on, when it finally bloomed - their restrictions weren't going to stop it.

Florida had restrictions - stay at home orders, schools closed, and the like - but they did it when the virus was aggressively on the rise - so even thought their restrictions weren't as, well, restrictive, and didn't last as long (maybe) - the overall effect may very well have been better.

In no way - at all - does this prove lockdowns or restrictions don't help. All it proves is that - despite great restrictions in many places here and abroad - the virus would continue to spread at some pace, faster some places than others, until you take the vaccine or get infected. That much seems pretty clear.

Remember - FL didn't "beat" covid - and neither did CA - they just changed the pace. Let it go long enough and see if the "per capita" counts even up. They definitely will - except now for the vaccine.

So don't bash CA - and don't congratulate FL - we're all losers here, that's pretty much all there is to it.
I'd expect this argument from a highly partisan left winger like you.

What you fail to recognize is that the collateral damage from COVID was FAR FAR LESS in Florida because it stayed open. Like most Democrats, your entire universe revolves solely around the virus and does not take into consideration other important things like mental health, economic well-being, and liberty.

While you totally disregard the mental health and liberty of the seniors who were forced to stay locked down for over a year because of DeSantis' policies.

Well stated and agreed

If people like you were in charge they would still be locked down.

When DeSantis "unlocked" everything most seniors kept themselves locked down. Ditto lots of businesses did not open fully.

Basically enough of the population ignored DeSantis to result in less of a disaster than if they had listened to the arrogant child who thinks he smarter than the average bear lol.

To his credit he has gotten shots in arms fairly quickly, even though he has created a lot of chaos, stress and confusion in the process.

Wow, the overall point seemed to go way over your head. One could easily argue that things like state wide (or nation wide) mandated lockdowns for the sake of lockdowns are counter productive. Let finer grained lockdowns take care of locality based situations. One can cry 'luck' all they want, but the reality is that the policy generally worked. That the policy was tailored to their unique situation (either by intent or by luck) just showed that broad brush 'assume the worst' policies also don't guarantee better outcomes.

Has nothing to do with me being in charge. They are still locked down unless they have had a vaccine and believe they are safe to unlock.

If you havent had a vaccine in FL and you value your life, you are still locked down unless there are responsible businesses in your community that are engaged in safe practices.

And so now the New York Times is a reputable paper?

Just checking because I'm sure other stories from the Times have been dismissed because it is the Times......

Word salad........or more precisely word coleslaw.

The fact is that DeSantis' parents(elders) saved him from his ill advised decisions.

Florida ranks 20th in cases per capita, higher than California......hmmm
Florida ranks higher than California per capita death rates...hmmmmm

And DeSantis has been accused of not accurately reporting COVID deaths by seniors.

Makes you go hmmmm.
