I realize there are many wealthy people on this forum (who thus got no stimulus) but for those of us comfortably middle class - and had no decrease in income - how are you spending your $2000 stimulus?
The first $1400 stimulus payment I got went to buy a new refrigerator. Funny thing is, I still don’t have it! My old one keeps developing ice in the freezer and then the ice grows into the fridge part and melts leaving water everywhere. I keep having to periodically remove everything from the freezer and use a turkey baster with hot water to unfreeze a drain in the back of the freezer. Anyway, I bought a new fridge made in the USA since I figured that was the point of the money... stimulate the US economy. Although at this point, I might ask for a refund. It’s been months and still no fridge. On top of that, the old one stopped having its freezing issues (I ran a piece of copper wire that I looped around a heating element down the drain). I’ll give it until the end of this month.
The second $600 payment went to help pay my federal taxes.
This third $1400 one I thought I might save for when colleges start opening up for tours again. My daughter is a junior in high school and she’s looking into colleges now. The money will go to gas, hotels, and eating out while we take a weekend road trip to see all the schools in person. That would stimulate the economy too. But it’s going to have to wait since the colleges aren’t open.
Even though I’m a single mom, I didn’t get the child payments. I let my ex husband claim her as his dependent (we have joint custody). So I just get the payments like a single person.
Yes! I had to do this on the fridge that came with my house... five years ago, and it worked perfectly. I think Whirlpool actually sells a part for this for a few bucks, but a copper wire works too. I'd cancel that fridge and spend the money elsewhere if I were you.
Check your bank account folks. My $1400 check is pending in my account as of this morning.
