Where I grew up, we didn't separate ethnically like that except for blacks. The Italians had traditionally been looked down on but at my generation, we didn't differentiate....and I married an Italian girl.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I grew up in Charlestown and Dorchester part of Boston in the 50s and married a Swede the only blonde for miles lol
The neighborhood I grew up in was mainly made up of English, Italians, Irish and Jewish. We were constantly have gang fights especially between the Italians and Irish. We couldn’t stand each other. I hated every Irish person in the world with a passion.
Well that explains it. A lot of blows to the head in your youth.
Thought about moving to Bermuda. I do miss island life.
Honestly I think the fighting is an inner city and rural thing. If they are rough and/or impoverished areas, you’ll often find that.
Spent my childhood in Bermuda in the 60's -- idyllic to say the least. And while I still think it would hold some magic -- like most places it has changed.
For the most part our communities were homogenous....maybe some differences in income but for the most part that didn't create 'rivalries' -- just awareness. We lived in the snobby area our poorer friends would say -- but they still were our best friends so not sure he they thought were the snobs. LOL
I'm part Irish, but I never found much point in fighting just for the sake of it. I don't celebrate St. Patrick's day. There's been too much blood spilt.
I must say, having read your posts here over time, I am not in the least bit surprised that you (by your own admission) grew up hating people different from yourself.

Anyway Happy St Patrick’s to all and to all my Irish friends.
Were you a kid in 1920? I’m firmly middle aged and when there was brawling going on it wasn’t on ethnic lines it was geographical. I’m Irish and most of my friends were Italian.

Yet you post hateful stuff. What's your excuse?
