As we’ve learned in the Colorado shooting thread “white” is not a protected class, so “no.”
And, private organization doing what they choose with their own funds.
That being said, if some of those funds are provided via federal grants, etc., they may have agreed to general equal treatment or some such with regard to distribution, so...
In any event, it is in incredibly poor taste and has, rightfully, generated bad press which, in a perfect world, would cause them to rethink their decision.
Like those bakers.
Black girls are gonna stop making babies with white guys.
Wonder if an Obama type would get half pay.
The other way around is far more prevalent. It'll be interesting to see if such families are included because of the black father/mixed-race baby or if they're excluded because of the white mother.
What the miscegenation laws failed to accomplish, private philanthropy just might. The KKK must be smiling today.
I am more concerned with the publicly funded stupid coming out of Evanston IL.
Evanston is using tax revenues from recreational marijuana sales to fund grants of up to $25,000 for down payments and home repairs within the so- called triangle community of the city, population 75,000. Application for grants is limited to those who either lived in or are direct descendants of someone who lived in the triangle between 1900-1969.
All real estate brokers are required to take mandatory continuing education in Fair Housing. Such training in Illinois usually includes a high level review of how Evanston became a segregated community which evolved during the great migration from the rural south to the Midwest for factory jobs. A combination of city zoning, real estate practices and lending boxed the black population into the triangle.
Fair housing testers have long targeted Evanston real estate brokers for ongoing racial redlining. A few brokerages have lost their licenses due to redlining. The numbers were even greater at the individual broker/ agent level.
For decades, the schools in the triangle received less per student funding than schools outside the triangle.
The city’s intention to use tax revenue from the sales of recreational marijuana was very much a part of the city’s decision to use revenues as reparations. This is because of the historical targeting of the triangle community for marijuana possession vs the community as a whole. This is especially remarkable given nearly 1/3 of the population are students and faculty at the highly selective Northwestern University, with tuition of nearly $60,000/ year.
At a gut level I think it is going to be challenging for a majority of residents within the triangle to prove eligibility for grant application based on the residential criteria being used, which is one of the reasons some oppose it.
Plot twist, poor person acquires handgun with high capacity magazine (11 rounds according to CA) then does a “mass shooting” ....... Would be a major backfired dagger in the heartless politicians of CA.
So, the city is handling the distribution of private monies? That seems...... odd.
Same deal in Stockton, California which raised private funding for a basic income lottery for 125 BIPOC low income households. While there were new strings attached to spending the $500/ month allocation, lottery winners were asked to report how they spent it.
Responses included dental work, clothing, reducing hours of second job and paying bills. Reportedly, the most common response was food.

Interesting. I would expect there is legislation/regulation around this? Local government accepting private $$$$ seems like a dicey proposition to me. One could argue that they are using public money (taxes) to administer a private enterprise. No?

^^^ The new smart moderate's position on anti-white racists.
"Tut, tut, well certainly that could have been handled better but we do need to respect the rights of private organizations. Let's keep this in perspective. I mean, it's not as if they're homophobes !"
